Confrontations Ensue as Chance Pursues a Lead — and Victoria Surprises Tucker
Tuesday, April 4, 2023: Today on The Young and the Restless Abby gives Devon her answer, Tucker questions Victoria, and accusations fly at the GCAC.

At the gala, Summer sobs and cries as Nick and Kyle hang onto her. Chance reiterates, “Phyllis is gone.” He reports that the driver swerved to avoid a deer and confirmed there were no survivors.
Daniel gawps, “So, she’s really gone.” Danny pulls his son into his arms.
Chance asks Sharon if she’s okay. She tears up and says, “It’s a lot.” It reminds her of the night Rey died too but she can handle it and right now she’s just worried about Phyllis’s family.
Diane tells Jack that despite everything she was hoping Phyllis had survived for her children’s sake. Jack declares, “This is just awful.” Jeremy steps forward to confront Diane and tells her to stop pretending she’s upset, “This is exactly what you wanted to happen.”
At Society’s bar, Victoria tells Tucker if he sells McCall Unlimited to Newman he would have the freedom to go wherever he wants and do whatever he wants. Tucker says freedom is a state of mind. Victoria suggests he could take up race cars again. He’s kind of over that. Victoria says he could woo Ashley with some rare emeralds. She admits she’s impatient and wants to lay their cards on the table. “What is it that you want? What can I offer you that you won’t turn down?”
At Devon’s place, he and Abby canoodle after sex and he gets them a nightcap. He asks what she’s thinking about. Abby says she’s just wondering if she could call this place home and smiles.
At the gala, Jack fumes at Stark and bellows that everyone in this room is devastated by Phyllis’s death, “With the probable exception of you!” He tells Jeremy to leave, but the criminal declares he’s not leaving until he finds out more information about what happened to his wife. Kyle decides he should get Summer out of there. Nick tells his daughter he’s a phone call away and that he loves her. As they leave, Diane tells Summer she’s so sorry. Summer turns away and glares as Kyle hugs his mother.
At Society, Tucker asks Victoria why McCall Unlimited is so attractive to her. “It’s a failing company weighed down by debt.” He wonders if the endeavor has nothing to do with his company and everything to do with her.
At Devon’s, he and Abby discuss what Chance’s reaction would be to her moving in there. She’s sure it would be really hard for him. She still feels guilty. Devon does too but they’ve both done what they can to apologize to the people they hurt. Abby says one thing Chance was right about is that her feelings for him have always been more complicated than friendship. Devon doesn’t find it complicated at all. “I love you.”

At the gala, Jeremy’s not willing to take Chance’s word on Phyllis’s death. He arrested him for theft knowing it was a setup! He wants the detective to investigate what happened before his wife died. She was assaulted, her life threatened, and she passed out in front of a room full of witnesses. “Find me some answers!” Stark walks off to get some air. Daniel then approaches Chance and says, “None of this adds up.” Something is off and he can feel it in his gut.
Chance rejoins the EMT in the lobby and asks where he stored Phyllis’s blood. The man tells him it was in a metal container per protocol. They probably took it to the hospital.
In the lounge, Sharon joins Nick, who says Summer was wrecked and wanted to go home. He’s surprised she hung around. Sharon worries, “Nick, what if I’m responsible for what happened to Phyllis.” After she collapsed, Lauren said it could have been a side effect from her coma all those years ago. Nick reassures her and muses, “But something caused Phyllis to collapse tonight… or someone.” They shoot looks at both Jeremy and Diane. They wonder if there’s a connection to Diane’s feud with her. They go over Jeremy being a terrible person and Nick warns if it turns out Phyllis’s death wasn’t an accident, he’s looking right at Stark.

At Society, Victoria tells Tucker that some of his divisions are successful and could be a goldmine. She’s confident that this venture could be hugely successful. Tucker is trying to figure out what her definition of success is in this instance. Victor wants to hand the company off to the kid brother she despises, which doesn’t seem like a win for her. Victoria has her own ideas for McCall and Adam’s services will not be needed. Tucker wonders how she plans on beating her father.
At the gala, Jack doesn’t want to leave and tells Diane he can’t believe Phyllis is gone. Diane knows he loved her very much in the past. Jack worries about Stark targeting Diane. She insists she didn’t mean the threat she made against Phyllis, and says Jeremy clearly pickpocketed the engagement ring and gave it to the redhead, which is why she had it in her hand. Jack notes it’s Jeremy’s word against Diane’s and the only person who knows the truth is Phyllis. He knows his endgame is punishing Diane so he wants to stay there and find out everything. Diane gets choked up about Phyllis’s last moments being spent attacking them with Summer witnessing it. It will haunt that poor girl.
Kyle and Summer walk into the Abbott house and Ashley asks if Jack is with them. She takes in the look of them and asks what’s wrong. Summer cries, “My mom is dead.” Ashley is floored.
At Devon’s, he details why he loves Abby and they talk about Dom bringing them together. Devon says he reminded him that family always comes first. Surprising him with the tribute to Neil put everything in perspective. He and Lily found their way because of her. “You’ve always, always been there for me.” Devon wants to live there with her and Dom, the three of them.
At the gala, Danny asks Jack if he knows what Chance is working on. Jack’s in the dark. Danny is having a hard time accepting that Phyllis is really gone. Jack sighs; he is too. “She’s been a major factor in my life for decades now.” Danny recalls keeping Daniel away from her years ago because he believed she was toxic. He notes they had a conversation recently that changed all of that and he thought they would be friends. Nick joins them and says it wouldn’t be lost on Phyllis — the three of them standing around talking about her. Jeremy walks up and accuses them of crying crocodile tears for a woman they discarded. He reiterates that he’s not going anywhere until he gets justice for his wife. Jack suggests he let the GCPD do their job. Jeremy snarks, “The same GCPD that looked the other way when you and Diane tried to frame me for theft?” Jack tells him to shut up or get out. Stark vows he won’t let him or Diane get away with what they’ve done.
At Society, Victoria tells Tucker she has a lifetime of practice dealing with her father and is the CEO of Newman, so can run it as she sees fit. Tucker doesn’t think the conflict she would create would be worth it. Victoria agrees. Maybe it doesn’t make any sense for her to try and acquire McCall.
At the Abbott house, Ashley tells Summer she’s so sorry about her mom and assures her they will all support her. She can’t get over this as Phyllis had more life in her than anyone she knows. They weren’t friends but had some common ground these last few months. Ashley tells Summer her mother was fearless and everything she did was to protect the people she loved — Summer was at the top of that list. “You meant everything to her.” Summer cries that she wasn’t always the best daughter. Ashley tells her the bad stuff doesn’t matter… all that matters is the love Phyllis had for her.
At the GCAC, Chance tells his police officer they need to keep quiet about the blood sample which could reveal why Phyllis collapsed — maybe they’re investigating more than an accident.
At Devon’s place, he tells Abby he knows they have to consider Chance. She worries that it could affect their visitation arrangements. She cheated on her husband and blew up her whole life, “Moving on that fast…” It just happened so quickly. Devon asks if finding true happiness can happen too quickly. Abby is concerned about how people will see her. Devon doesn’t want her to do anything that will make her uncomfortable, he’s just learned that life isn’t promised to them. “I don’t want to hold myself back from being happy because of how some people might think about my choices.” What they did is in the past and he’s ready to enjoy the future, “And that future is you, me, and Dominic.” He tries again. “Will you move in with me?”

At the gala, Sharon sits to talk with Daniel about how Phyllis’s death doesn’t seem real. Sharon assures him that’s a normal reaction. Daniel says none of it makes any sense. He knows what his mother thought of Stark, and now he’s supposed to believe they got married? “What’s with the way she just faded and fell to the ground, and her ambulance just has this freak accident?” Suddenly, he apologizes. The accident on the road reminds him of Cassie. Sharon remembers feeling just as he does now, “Like nothing felt real.” She reminds him that sometimes very bad things happen for no good reason. Daniel tells Sharon about the last conversation he had with his mother. She hopes in time it will bring him some peace. Daniel laments that he froze her out. Now he won’t get the chance to make it right. “The way my mom came to me, it was off. It was like she has a premonition that something bad was going to happen.”
Elsewhere, Jeremy asks Diane, “How did you do it? How did you kill my wife?!” Diane claims she did nothing. Daniel appears and asks Stark how he got his mother to marry him. Did he blackmail her? Daniel hollers, “Are you the reason she’s dead?” Stark knows he’s devastated and looking for someone to blame. “Let me help you out with that.” He says Phyllis turned to him because everyone else turned their backs on her. “If you want to pin her death on someone, look in the mirror.” Daniel lunges at him and Danny intervenes.
At Devon’s place, Abby tells him she needs a little more time to think. He understands but feels it must be awkward living in Chance’s family home. Abby worries about Dom adjusting. Devon doesn’t want to stress the little guy out. Abby wants to do this the right way for everyone involved. “I love you too.” The one thing she’s certain about is that anywhere she is with him feels like home.
At Society, Tucker asks if Victoria’s changed her mind about buying his company. Victoria confirms she’s rescinding her offer. He wonders if this is some kind of reverse psychology. Victoria assures him he was just that persuasive and declares, “Newman’s courtship of McCall is officially over.”

At the Abbott house, Summer cries and decides to go upstairs. Kyle tells Ashley things are going to get a lot worse before she gets better.
At the gala, Daniel fumes at Stark, “I know you had something to do with my mother’s death and I’m going to make you pay for it!” Nick and Danny hold Daniel back so he can’t physically assault Jeremy, who declares he’s just as eager to punish the culprit or culprits. Chance appears and Nick asks if he has an update. Chance expresses his condolences and Jeremy retorts, “Quit stalling! Do you have any new information?”

Chance has nothing new to report and says it’s time for everyone to go home. Stark declares this unacceptable and accuses, “There’s more you’re not telling us. I’m not leaving until you give us the facts.” Chance threatens to take him to the station. Jeremy fumes, “This isn’t over.” Chance tells Daniel he’s truly sorry for his loss and everyone files out. Jack whispers to Stark, “Daniel’s not the only one you’re going to have to worry about.” Chance tells his officer that they’ll soon find out if somebody was trying to kill Phyllis.
