Phyllis Stumbles Upon a Party for Summer and Kyle She Wasn’t Invited To — and Diane Resigns
Thursday, September 22, 2022: Today on The Young and the Restless, Jack intervenes between Diane and Phyllis, Summer and Kyle stick to their guns, and Noah unveils his new club.
At Jabot, Diane warns Phyllis to back off! Phyllis asks, “Really?” Diane screams it this time, “Back off!” Jack appears and warns them to cool things down. If Kyle and Summer walked in on this instead of him, they would both be out of a job. Diane, emotional, apologizes and walks off. Jack tells Phyllis he won’t keep her from her gloating and glee, she should just be glad Summer and Kyle didn’t see this. “You’re not off the hook by the way,” he warns as he goes.
At Crimson Lights, Tessa asks Mariah if she thinks they can really get all of this done in time. Mariah mentions coordinating with Noah and is sure they’ll be fine. They stop short when they see Kyle and Summer, who are agonizing over something on a tablet and wondering what they’re going to do. Mariah tells Tessa to remain calm and no one will suspect a thing. Tessa is sure they’re ripping apart stills from her photo shoot and she walks over to ask if it was a total disaster. Summer tells her the problem was that she can’t choose just one; they were all so good. “Your smile alone could sell a thousand dresses.” Mariah asks what they were looking at that was so disappointing. Kyle grins. They were looking at different concepts for their vow renewal. Mariah and Tessa enthuse about the news. Summer thinks they should let it come to them. They’re all laughing when Noah arrives. He ducks back on the patio so they don’t see him.
In the Abbott living room, Traci runs into Allie and is surprised to find her there at that time of day. Allie assures her that everything’s fine at work. Traci muses about the chaos junkies Phyllis and Diane working there. They’re a handful on a good day but put them together and something is bound to explode. Allie relays that they haven’t been a problem for her and have given her a wide berth since she stood up to them and set boundaries. Traci’s glad. Allie marvels about working with the legend Ashley and in the place her dad found so much joy. Traci asks why she’s not at the lab. Allie has reasons she just can’t tell her about yet.
Jack finds Diane crying in the park. She’s beating herself up over what he heard and says she really screwed up. He won’t disagree with her. Diane’s just been stuffing her feelings down for so long and today it just came to the surface after her run ins with Victor and Phyllis. She hates it when she lets people like them get to her, but she brought it on herself. Diane pulls out her phone and Jack asks who she’s calling. Diane says, “Kyle. He deserves to know the truth.”
At Crimson Lights, Noah decides to join the others and learns that Summer and Kyle are getting married again. He congratulates them and Summer asks if he’ll bring Allie. Noah wanted to talk to Mariah and Tessa about that if they have time. The trio heads to the patio leaving Kyle and Summer thinking that was weird. Summer wonders why Noah didn’t want their advice.
At the Abbott mansion, Traci’s curiosity is peaked by Allie’s mysterious absence from work. Allie relays that it’s not her secret to tell. “Noah will be here soon and I’m sure we’ll both find out more.” Traci’s delighted everything is going well for her. Allie tells Traci she gave her the advice to let her be happy and she took it. “It feels really great to have family again.”
In the park, Diane hopes Kyle will forgive her. Jack assures her he has no intention of telling his son about her run-in with Phyllis. He won’t instigate issues at Marchetti. Diane is sorry he witnessed her yelling. Even if he keeps it quiet, she will know. She has to be honest with Kyle, so she will tell him how horribly she behaved, and he can decide how to deal with it.
At Crimson Lights, Phyllis finds Summer and Kyle and tells them, “Something has happened.” Just then, Kyle gets a text and says, “It’s my mom.”
Noah, Mariah, and Tessa arrive at the Abbott mansion. Allie says she wasn’t sure how much to tell. Noah hopes Traci’s evening is free. They’re planning a surprise for Summer and Kyle and could use her help. Traci hopes they’re not surprising them with their vow renewal. Noah explains it’s a pre-vow renewal party at his new club. Traci loves the idea. They wonder whether to include Diane in the festivities or are they asking for trouble putting her in the same room with Phyllis and a throwable cake. Traci feels they’ll be on their best behavior and Allie agrees. Mariah is skeptical and proposes not inviting either of them. Noah thinks that seems wrong. Allie suggests there may be another option that doesn’t exclude either of them.
At Jabot, Diane is sure Phyllis wasted no time in running to Summer and Kyle. Phyllis felt they had a right to know what happened. Diane is glad she told them, that’s why she asked them to meet her… so she could come clean. Phyllis accuses her of doing it because she got caught, but Jack vouches for Diane — he was with her before the phone call, and she was very remorseful. Diane thanks him and says what she did was totally out of line. “I’m truly sorry.” She lost her temper, and it was uncalled for and unprofessional. Phyllis questions if she should applaud Diane’s remarkable performance. Diane will save Kyle and Summer the discomfort of firing her and will officially resign. Phyllis smirks. She thinks Diane is doing the right thing. Summer nods at Kyle and Phyllis asks what’s going on. Kyle reminds her that they made it clear they would both be gone if there were any more infractions and Diane resigned because of an argument with her. Phyllis can’t believe it — do they want her to resign as well?! Phyllis didn’t provoke her! When she came to them in good faith, she sealed her own fate?!? Diane mutters, “No one likes a tattletale.” Kyle asks, “What was that?” Diane was just saying they made the terms of their employment crystal clear; Phyllis must not have grasped the concept of what they said. Kyle tells Phyllis they’re sorry to see her go — it seems this was inevitable. Phyllis walks out. Diane hopes they can all get together for dinner at some point. She exits too.
Jack asks if Kyle and Summer were just teaching them a lesson or has Marchetti said goodbye to them for good. Kyle doesn’t think it would be possible to teach them to get along. Summer laments that her mom was a perfect fit at Marchetti Home. Jack suggests letting them stew for a while and then offering them one last chance.
At the Abbott house, Allie suggests they stagger Diane and Phyllis’ arrival times. Noah loves they idea and Traci think it might work. Mariah warns they’ll have to make sure there’s no overlap. Traci suggests they have Diane come first; she’ll be easier to get out of the room. They are all in agreement.
At Jabot, Jack gets a message from Traci, who wants to see him. Summer tells Kyle his father is a pushover — why should they give their mothers another chance? “We have to be firm.” Kyle wonders if it’s worth the collateral damage to Marchetti to prove a point. Summer worries if they let them off the hook, they won’t take them seriously again. Kyle figures they should see what they get up to next. If they’re crafting apology letters they’ll give them another chance, if they’re planning to wage war, they stay gone. Summer agrees to this strategy.
At Crimson Lights, Summer finds Phyllis and tells her she’s sorry about how that went down. Phyllis informs her she’s supposed to be on her side. “You fired me because of something Diane did. She lost her mind.” Her hatred of her goes back decades and no rules will change that. Summer reminds Phyllis she gave her word that she’d keep the peace. Phyllis did keep the peace and deems the rule ridiculous. Summer points out she could have ignored Diane or walked away but she didn’t. She runs down how busy she and Kyle are running an international fashion house and complains about having to take time out of her day to deal with this stuff. Summer gets a message from Noah, who wants her to meet him at the hotel. Phyllis wants to go with her but Summer suggests they instead talk in the morning.
At Society, Kyle finds Diane at the bar and tells her he’s proud of her. She made the right decision after what happened. Diane didn’t have a choice — part of her therapy has been owning her actions. Kyle assures her it won’t affect her relationship with him or Harrison unless it escalates. Diane is more resolved than ever to do better and be better. She asks if Phyllis resigned. Just then, Kyle gets a text from Mariah to meet her at the Grand Phoenix and to bring his mother. He shows Diane.
At Crimson Lights, Phyllis wonders if Diane is getting the better of her and vows not to let her win. “They all have blinders on.” If she could just get Summer to open her eyes and see things from her perspective. “Summer just needs a little nudge,” she decides and exits.
At the hotel, Kyle, Diane and Summer wander into the dark room and wonder what’s going on. The lights go up and the guests yell, “Surprise!” and applaud. Noah tells Kyle and Summer the surprise is for them. It’s the party to celebrate their vow renewal. Allie enthuses that it’s her first big Abbott shindig. Summer and Kyle thank them and Noah declares, “Let’s party! Welcome to the Glam Club.”
Summer tells her brother this place is going to be packed day and night. They tease Tessa and Mariah about hiding their plans from them earlier and Summer pulls Noah aside. She asks him why her parents aren’t there. Noah says Nick is on the way, but they thought it was best to have Diane and Phyllis come at different times. Summer hopes they have a plan to get Diane out of there.
Just then, Noah spots Phyllis at the door. “I thought that I did, but it looks like we just hit a little snag.” Phyllis walks in and takes in the scene. She asks Summer, “What’s going on?”
