Billy Blindsides a Tearful Chelsea — and Adam Witnesses Kevin’s Clash With Chance
Tuesday, August 23, 2022: Today on The Young and the Restless, Victoria hatches a plan, Victor calls Chance to the house against Abby's advice, and Billy makes a decision about his future.
At Victoria’s house, she comes down the stairs ready for work and recalls Billy telling her there is nothing she can’t conquer and that she’s amazing. The doorbell rings — it’s Nikki with coffee and pastries. She’s glad to hear Victoria got some sleep. They sit and Victoria enthuses about moving forward. “Life after Ashland.” Talk turns to what Nick is going through. Victoria’s grateful he saved her. Nikki thinks her daughter needs to take time to deal with Ashland’s spiral, but Victoria doesn’t want to wallow. “I feel free.” Nikki’s pleased. Victoria reveals, “Last night I even had a drink with Billy, of all people.” Nikki’s surprised. Victoria’s ready to plot the course for the future. “Let’s be bold, mom.”
At the ranch, Nick and Victor exchange pleasantries. Nick tells his father that the Ashland ordeal isn’t over for him just because Chance shut down the investigation. “A man died because of my actions.” Nick goes over how he’s angry about Victor making a unilateral decision without consulting the people involved. Victor argues that Locke caused his own death. Nick fumes that because of what he did, he was forced to lie to the police. It may be second nature to his father, but it’s not comfortable for him. Now that he’s had some time and distance from the situation, he understands he was trying to be a good father. Victor confirms everything he did was for him and Victoria. Nick recaps that it all happened so fast, and Victor acted on instinct. He will do anything to protect his children. Victoria realized that — she really is a lot more like Victor than any of them could ever be. They go over their surprise at Chance closing the case and the sloppiness of Victor’s security team, who have since been relieved from their duties. Nick wonders when his father will stop taking such chances.
In the park, Kevin wants to know how the D.A. reacted when Chance handed over all of their evidence. He’s shocked to hear that Chance didn’t do it. He came to the conclusion that there was no probable cause. Kevin protests and assumes Paul was behind it, but Chance interrupts, “It was my decision, Kevin.” Kevin angrily runs down all of the evidence they had spent time collecting. Chance grits, “It was a tragic accident.” Kevin knows he doesn’t believe that and warns that if the evidence comes to light there could be serious blowback for both of them!
At Chancellor-Winters, Billy asks Lily for a chat. He’d like to pick up their conversation about him splitting his time between the podcast and where he ultimately wants to be. “I think I figured out what I want to be when I grow up,” he quips. Lily isn’t sure where this is leading. “He’s making a course correction.” He’s found a replacement host for the Grinning Soul and will walk away from the podcasts to fully commit to being her COO. Lily worries he’s just saying it because he thinks it’s what she wants to hear. Billy explains that she factors into his decision, but he’s trying to hold himself accountable and be a man of his word. He promised not to let his mother down. Lily’s hearing that he’s doing this because it was demanded of him. Billy wants to be a man of integrity. “That’s my call.” Lily doesn’t want him to end up resenting her down the road. Billy didn’t like the feeling that something was changing between them. “This is where I want to be. This is where I belong.”
At the rooftop bar, Chelsea spots Adam and teases him about living a life of leisure. She questions why he’s reading about Ashland’s death, and he wonders if there was more to it than an accident. They go over him being alienated from the Newmans until Chloe shows up. Adam hopes the two of them get back to being a dynamic duo again. Having said that, he leaves. Chelsea and Chloe exchange compliments and discuss the podcast. Chelsea goes on about how amazing Billy is and infers that she could let loose with him in a way she couldn’t with Chloe. Her friend can see it was exactly what she needed.
They move to the couches and sit, where Chelsea continues to go on and on about how amazing it’s been working with Billy. Chloe understands why she had to go on hiatus from designing. “You were having a hard time after Rey died. He would be so proud of you now.” Chelsea asks if everything is okay with Chloe — she can tell something is wrong. She guesses there’s animosity between her and Sally and states that she’s lucky to have her. Chloe insists she’s fine, it’s just growing pains. Billy shows up and wants to steal Chelsea for a second. Chloe goes to get another drink. Chelsea starts rambling enthusiastically about their next episode, but Billy stops her to inform her that he’ll be stepping away from the podcast to focus on his day job. Chelsea’s stunned.
At the ranch, Nick goes over what a gamble Victor took. Victor wasn’t worried about himself. Nick complains about him taking risks. Victor will never stop safeguarding his family. Abby arrives and kisses her dad and greets Nick. She senses tension. They discuss Chance making the right decision by closing the case. Nick will always be grateful and says he has to get to work. Once alone, Victor tells Abby he’ll thank Chance later. She doesn’t think he should do that.

In the park, Chance and Kevin bicker about whether the evidence could be found by someone else. Chance insists there’s nothing to worry about, but Kevin warns the truth has a funny way of coming out. Kevin made a commitment to be the best person he could be! Adam happens upon them and listens as Kevin fumes to Chance that if this was anyone other than Victor, he’d be pursuing a conviction with everything he’s got. Chance snaps, “I didn’t do this for Victor.” He remindsChance that he’s a part of the family; people are going to say he’s ignoring the facts. Chance thought it was best not to drag the family through the ordeal of whatever charges the D.A. might file. The accidental death could have been a scandal for the real victim — Victoria. Kevin fully agrees, but it should have been the D.A.’s call, not Chance’s.
At Victoria’s house, she and Nikki discuss her plans for taking Newman Enterprises into the future. Her mother warns her of the optics of forging ahead when Ashland supposedly just died in a tragic car accident. Victoria will address it and declares that nothing is in their way now.
At the rooftop bar, Billy thinks Chelsea should take over the podcast, but she feels that’s the worst idea he’s ever had. She questions him walking away from something he clearly loves. Billy explains it’s getting in the way of his… She finishes, “Real life?” Chelsea protests that he’s never been more real that when he’s diving into messy matters on the podcast. She feels it won’t be the same without him. The whole point of doing this was because she was doing it with someone who gets her. Billy agrees the partnership was great, but he made a commitment to Chancellor-Winters and he needs to do this… for many reasons. Chelsea, with tears in her eyes, questions him being in a rush to get back into a world where he recently admitted he doesn’t belong. Billy has to see it through. Chelsea knows he’ll realize his mistake and then she’ll find a million ways to say, “I told you so.” Billy has to go and leaves Chelsea reeling. Chloe rejoins her and says, “Girl, do not go there.”

In the park, Kevin complains to Chance about Victor getting away with what he did. Chance, through gritted teeth, tells him it’s over. He did a great job but it’s time to move on. Chance walks away and Adam appears. “I couldn’t help overhearing. It sounds like you’ve been left in one hell of a spot.”
Billy returns to Chancellor-Winters and tells Lily he had to share his decision with Chelsea. He also wanted to pick up something he’s been holding onto for the right moment and reveals a yin and yang necklace. It’s two pieces coming together to form a whole, just like them. He puts it on her, and they kiss.
