Chance Confronts Victor About Ashland’s Body — and Phyllis’ Plan to Sabotage Diane Starts to Come Together
Monday August 8, 2022: Today on The Young and the Restless, Kyle and Summer warn their mothers, Phyllis reassures Nikki, and Nick worries about how far Chance might go.
Traci finds Jack rooting for Harrison as he’s playing soccer in the park. He mentions to his sister that he’s thinking of coaching. She comments that he seems to be spending more time with his grandson than behind his desk. Jack explains his staff can get a hold of him any time they want but his grandson is his priority. Traci remarks that Diane is doing a remarkable job with him. Jack concedes he’s happy that Diane has been making such an effort with her son and grandson. It’s unclear if she’s changed that much but she is being reasonable. Some people can change…some can’t.
Summer and Kyle are at Society. She mentions a position they need to hire for and suggests her mom. He thinks that would be like handing Phyllis a grenade. She wonders if forcing their mothers to work together might make them behave. Besides, someone has offered to buy the hotel and her mom has lots of creative talent. It would give her a chance to work with her mom in a field they love. This persuades him, but Kyle warns they need to keep her mom from becoming a liability — any problems and she’s out the door. They’ll put her on notice from the get-go and make sure she stays away from Diane. Summer suggests that he give his mother the same warning. “Deal,” he says.
Diane strolls into the Grand Phoenix with her gym bag and Phyllis mockingly claps, sniping about her getting her workouts in. This rapidly leads to her reminding her about abandoning Kyle. Diane gloats about how her new life in Genoa City is better than she could have dreamed. She gets a text from Kyle and decides to postpone her workout. Taking her turn to gloat, Phyllis claims she feels like the world is her oyster and something is about to change. She gets a text from her daughter asking to meet. “Toodles,” she chirps at Diane.
In the foyer, Summer meets with her mom, who is thrilled to hear she is offering her the job at Marchetti. Summer warns the only ground rule is to play nice with Diane. She doesn’t want any “bitchiness” or volatility. Phyllis promises she won’t provoke Diane. Her daughter says they will be keeping an eye on her. Neither she nor Kyle trust that she can stop stirring the pot. Phyllis learns that Diane is getting the same warning.
Phyllis tells her daughter their worries are unfounded. Her daughter doesn’t believe that. The redhead says she’s looking forward to this new chapter in her life. Summer warns again that she better stay on the level. Taking her hand, Phyllis promises not to let her down and accepts her offer. They hug.
Diane goes to Society and meets with her son. She chokes on some water when Kyle informs her that Phyllis is coming to work at Marchetti. This means they will have to work together sometimes. “You do realize that she’s just doing this to try to sabotage me,” she says. He just wants everyone to co-exist and assures her they will be in separate divisions. They are both getting the same warning and have to be civil. His mom encourages him to consider why Phyllis is giving up her hotel for this. It’s all suspect. She hopes he can see that Phyllis is being an aggressor with ulterior motives. Her son says Phyllis can only mess things up for her if she lets her. Diane asks if this is a test to see if she can handle herself under the worst possible conditions. He tells her she’s faced worse and he believes in her. A peaceful co-existence with her old enemy would prove to everyone that she’s changed.
Later, Summer returns to Society and joins her husband. They fill each other in about how their moms handled their demands. His mom is worried and didn’t take it well. Summer wonders if they are making a mistake but he thinks their mothers need to be pushed to get along. She loves his optimism.
Diane walks right by Jack in Crimson Lights. When he calls out to her, she starts venting about the Phyllis situation. She wishes her son would see that Phyllis is conspiring against her. He warns her not to launch a pre-emptive strike; it will only hurt her. She promises not to let that happen.
Chance stops by Victoria’s office at Newman. He needs to talk to her. Nick is defensive. The cop says they need to go over this as many times as it takes to get to the bottom of what happened. He reminds them that they called when they thought Locke was dead. Chance wants to follow up on all the confusion. Evidence has come to light regarding Locke’s car and he just wants to confirm their account of events before he files his report. He’s walked the distance between Locke’s car and her house. It seems like a tough walk in hard wind for someone with severe head trauma.
Chance isn’t convinced it was possible and says the security footage goes blank when Ashland would have climbed into his car. They have footage of the car moving but it looks like there may be more than one person in it. They also found evidence that footprints had been badly erased. He’s not accusing them of anything and assumes they don’t know any more than he does. The cop explains that he suspects their father had Locke’s body removed to protect them. Nick thinks that’s a helluva supposition but Chance doesn’t. He wanted to give them the opportunity to come clean before he confronts their father and they’re made possible accomplices. He’s sorry for what’s happened to Victoria and understands Ashland was evil — that’s why he’s giving them this chance. They won’t talk so Chance exits.
More: Could Paul come back?
Once alone, Victoria and Nick bicker about their father. Nick complains about Victor putting them in this position and worries Chance will not leave this alone. Victoria accuses Nick of forcing their father’s hand and doubts the detective will do much given that he’s married to Abby. Nick, unconvinced, is certain there will be major legal implications for all of them.
At the ranch, when Nikki notes that Victor seems very triumphant about Ashland’s death, he suggests she’s imagining things. “I had nothing to do with Ashland Locke’s demise… I’m glad he’s gone,” he says. She notes that Newman Enterprises is stronger than ever thanks to merging with Locke’s company. Victor insists Locke is exactly where he deserves to be after attempting to rip him off: on a cold slab waiting for a pauper’s burial. She’s not ready to dance on his grave. Victor thinks she will come around. He knew from the moment he met Locke that they would be engaged in a high-priced game — now he’s won and the family is united…almost.
She realizes he’s talking about Adam. It breaks his heart that his son is out. She tells him he’ll have to put his dream of having them all together behind him. He gets a call that Chance is there. Victor assumes this is about Locke and tells her this is nothing to worry about. “This will all be over soon,” he assures her as she leaves.
Chance meets with Victor. He tells him flatly that he’s sure he knows more than he’s saying and now is the time to be straight with him.
Nikki arrives at the Grand Phoenix and Phyllis tells her she got the job at Marchetti. Things are going to be tricky though, as Summer and Kyle will be watching her every move. Nikki wonders if she’s having second thoughts about their plan. Phyllis is completely committed and will have a high-profile executive job while Diane toils below. Nikki guesses that will be enough to make Diane erupt without the redhead lifting a finger. Phyllis will lift ten fingers and vows, “We’re going to get this bitch out of town.”
Next on The Young and the Restless: Victor calls Chance’s bluff, Adam receives an unexpected offer, Nick and Sharon look to the past.
