Jack and Phyllis Have Sex — and Summer Stuns Kyle With a New Twist on Their Future
Thursday, May 19, 2022: Today on The Young and the Restless, Mariah and Tessa revel in their newlywed status, Phyllis and Michael have words, and Diane gives Jack food for thought.
In their apartment in silky robes, Mariah and Tessa do champagne toasts and marvel at being married. They feel everything was perfect and it was amazing having their families there. They laugh over Jack catching the bouquet — the look on his face was priceless.
As Jack walks Phyllis to her room, they reflect on the unexpected kiss they shared. Jack questions if it really was all that unexpected. Phyllis feels it probably happened due to the emotions of the wedding. Jack muses, “Yeah. We’ll blame it on the wedding.” Phyllis opens the door to her suite and walks in. Jack follows. Phyllis removes her bracelet and soon they’re in bed having sex.
At Society, Michael is shown to a table and spots Diane at the bar. He still can’t over the fact that she’s really there. Diane is pleased he sounds glad about it. She learns Lauren is out of town and Michael asks her to join him. She’s grateful for the chance to catch up. Michael asks how things are going. Diane reports some positive momentum with Kyle, who extended his stay, though not for her. She raves about him officiating Kyle’s wedding and Michael realizes she crashed it.
At the Abbott house, Summer tells Kyle that Harrison is zonked out. She missed him so much. They kiss, and talk inevitably turns to Diane. Summer resents the way she showed up uninvited tonight and basically forced him to bring her over. It was manipulative. She then acted like a martyr when asked to leave. Summer doesn’t trust her, but can see Kyle is still struggling with this. “Have you already decided to let her back in?”
Kyle doesn’t know whether he can forgive his mother… or should. Summer can see he’s torn up, but she hasn’t seen proof that Diane’s sincere and doesn’t want to see him get hurt. Part of Kyle wants to give her time, but he doesn’t like living in this limbo. Summer reminds him that there’s Harrison to consider, and if she gets a vote, she’d elect to leave him out of it for as long as possible. Kyle agrees with that. He turns his attention to his sexy wife and the two start making out. Kyle leads her upstairs to the bedroom where they undress and make love.
Noah lets himself into a dark Crimson Lights and turns on the lights. He’s on the phone with Sharon and tells her not to wait up for him. There’s a noise at the door and Allie appears. He explains his mom owns the place. She explains she want back to Jack’s place, but couldn’t fall asleep so she came back out. Noah offers to get her something and then they can ignore each other. Allie says that sounds good.
In Phyllis’ suite after sex, she and Jack marvel that they seem to keep surprising each other. Phyllis tells him this feels right and challenges him to guess what she’s thinking right now. Jack figures she’s famished. Phyllis has a craving for Society’s late-night menu and wants to continue the celebration there. They kiss.
In their apartment, Tessa and Mariah open wedding gifts from co-workers, which includes a coffee table bird book and a ‘rock on’ hand paperweight. Faith’s present is framed art that says ‘family’. Tessa ruminates about having their first child. Mariah asks, “First child? Like, more than one?” They agree they’d love to have more than one and that one of them may even want to carry a child after they adopt. They kiss and Tessa leads Mariah to the bedroom.
At Society, Diane admits to Michael that she wasn’t invited to the wedding. They recall how he once helped her get custody of Kyle. Michael informs her he’s also the one who organized her memorial service… for Kyle’s sake. Diane feels bad anew for what she put her son through. Michael thinks she can change — he was no saint in the past either. He assures her there are people who care about her, but as a friend, advises her not to make anymore impulsive moves. Just then, Phyllis and Jack walk in. Phyllis marvels at Diane and Michael looking like best buds. Jack warns, “Ignore them.”
At their table, Phyllis and Jack laugh over him catching the bouquet. Across the room, Diane fumes to Michael that Phyllis is fawning all over Jack for her benefit. Phyllis gives a loud phony laugh and Michael cringes. Diane explains that the redhead has made it clear she wants her gone. As she prepares to go, she lets Michael know how much his friendship means to her. Michael reminds her again not to make anymore impulsive moves. With that, Diane makes a point of passing by Jack and Phyllis’ table. Phyllis urges her to get back to her room and pack. After she’s gone, Phyllis reiterates to Jack that Diane is not wanted there and she’s going to keep driving that home. She admires his blue eyes, and they smile at each other across the table.
In bed after sex, Kyle talks about achieving work/life balance with one’s job and Summer tells him, “I actually have to talk to you about that.” Summer discovered some things about Marchetti’s finances that Angelina was keeping from her. She claimed it was nothing for her to worry about, but something felt off. She did a deep dive into the company’s books and it’s worse than she ever could have imagined. They’re deep in a hole, but Angelina is in denial. Kyle asks if she wants to walk away. Summer loves her job but knows it will take something really big to keep Marchetti afloat. Kyle chuckles and invites her to share her idea.
At Society, Phyllis makes her way over to Michael’s table to complain about him hanging out with his old pal Diane. He remarks that she is his old pal and points out he’d stand by her in the same way. “So, suck it up.” He walks out, wishing Jack luck on his way. Phyllis rejoins Jack, who asks, “Feel better now?”
At Crimson Lights, Allie talks to Noah about having so much energy being directed at her by the Abbotts after it just being her and her father for so long. Noah gets it. He explains the Newmans are an assertive bunch — he even moved a continent away from them — but he’s learned that there’s far more good in being a part of it than bad. Allie’s glad he figured out how to deal with his family. Noah will get back to ignoring her, but assures that Jack’s one of the best guys he knows. The Abbotts will give her space if she needs it.
In their bedroom, Mariah and Tessa agree that they will share everything. Tessa strokes Mariah, “My beautiful wife.” Mariah repeats the words to Tessa, and they start kissing.
After making love, Tessa wants to stay up and Mariah is on board. They can watch the sun rise on their first day as a married couple and take on the world together. They start kissing passionately again.
In the hotel lobby, Jack tells Phyllis he will go home since his absence would be conspicuous. It’s none of his family’s business. They can explain things when they decide. Phyllis hopes to see him tomorrow and goes into the elevator. Behind Jack, Diane clucks, “My, my… so much romance in the air tonight.”
In their bedroom at the Abbott house, Summer asks Kyle, “What if Jabot bought Marchetti?” Kyle marvels, “That’s definitely big and out of the box.” She explains that they could move operations to Genoa City, but questions with everything going on with his mother, whether Kyle would even want to come back under those circumstances?
At the hotel, Jack needles Diane about making use of the hotel amenities. Diane complains about being hated in Genoa City and Jack grumbles about her turning up at the wedding uninvited. Diane explains that Michael advised her to be patient where Kyle’s concerned. She grins about him introducing her to Summer at the nuptials. Jack warns her to give their son space. Diane pivots to Jack and Phyllis. Jack asks what of it. Diane purrs, “Interesting timing. Almost like she’s marking her territory.” With that she walks off, leaving Jack frowning thoughtfully.
