Victor’s Declaration Rocks Adam – and Phyllis Considers Leaving Town for Good
Tuesday, January 25, 2022: Today on The Young and the Restless, Amanda calls in back-up to deal with Phyllis, Ashland has a run-in with Michael, and Adam pays Victoria a visit.
At Newman-Locke, Victoria expects Ashland will be happy about their year-end numbers. She may even outdo herself in the coming months. Just then, Adam walks in and asks if she really thinks she’ll get away with this.
At the ranch, Michael tells Victor he’s let everyone know he’s stepping down as D.A. and can make himself more available to him as his private counsel. Victor’s delighted and reports that Newman-Locke just filed a lawsuit against Newman Media.
At the Grand Phoenix, Amanda concludes a client meeting and later tells Phyllis her law firm will soon be on solid footing. Talk turns to Phyllis, who only needs counsel on her entire future. “I’m trying to decide whether I leave Genoa City for good and start a new beginning.” She reveals that Summer offered her a job at Marchetti and she’s considering it. Amanda’s taken aback, but Phyllis reminds her she doesn’t want to cause chaos and disputes the idea she’s rooted there. Amanda knows she misses her daughter, but this seems extreme – she’d miss a lot of people here who care about her. She’d like her to stay.
Phyllis gets choked up and sighs that Amanda is her only friend aside from Michael and Lauren. Amanda asks about Nick and Jack. Phyllis shrugs; “They’re not friends, they’re my ex husbands.” Her pal figures she’s feeling shut out of their lives and suggests moderation. Phyllis argues that won’t bring her closer to Summer. Amanda questions if moving to Milan is really what she wants – or is this about Jack going radio silent? Phyllis denies it, but Amanda’s skeptical. The redhead insists this is about her – she’s at loose ends and she’s getting complacent. Amanda asks, “What about this hotel? You’re irreplaceable.” Phyllis shrugs that she could sell it. Amanda thinks that would kill her. Phyllis admits it would sting but she’d have a career in Milan.
At Newman-Locke, Adam fumes about Victoria suing his company for the Newman name and reminds her that their father is part of Newman Media. Victoria argues that they plan to rename Chance Comm as Newman Media. Adam thinks he’s gone insane. She suggests he refresh and rebrand his company. “How about Victor and Son?” She informs him Newman Media is no longer available to him. Adam wants a minute alone with her and Ashland goes off to get lunch. Adam informs Victoria he sees right through her. They bicker as Adam suggests she call her media division Newman Communications – she never cared about the name before. He accuses her of trying to damage the success he’s earned. Victoria sneers about daddy handing him a company to run. Adam thinks she’s jealous and declares she’s wasted her energy on this endeavor, which will fail and won’t go over well with the old man. Victoria takes a call and dismisses him.
At the ranch, Michael notes that Victor seems awfully calm about Victoria suing him. Victor admires her moxie; she won’t go down without a fight. He adds that she made him an offer for the company but her turned her down – and is keeping Adam out of the loop. Michael declares they don’t have a case. Victor wonders if this is just retaliation and Michael offers to do some digging. Victor has a better plan…
At Society, Ashland talks to someone about a matter he’ll be spearheading with Victoria’s full support. He disconnects as Michael comes in and asks if he has a moment to chat.
Victor arrives in Victoria’s office and shuts the door. She gets up to greet her with a kiss and she muses about her visitors with the last name Newman today. Victor’s told her secretary to hold all calls so they can discuss a serious matter. He wants to know if she’s serious about the lawsuit. “If you are, of course you realize who you’re dealing with. I’m Victor Newman. I created that name. I built my empire, and it will always stay under my name.” Victoria says that’s her point – Newman Media should belong to the empire he created. Victor muses about the moniker Newman-Locke. He gathers she is doing this for leverage. Victoria informs him what’s good for the company is good for him. Victor asks if he were to consider her offer, where would that leave Adam? “Would he be running the newly-expanded company?”
Victoria questions if they’re negotiating. She’s not thrilled by the idea of keeping Adam on but would entertain the idea. She questions if he’d even agree to it. “We certainly don’t trust one another.” She warns he’d resent it if he sells the company to her. “If Adam refuses to come on board is that a deal-breaker for you?” Victor agrees that Adam will balk at working under her leadership, but he needs a dose of humility at this time. Victoria’s pleased he’s considering her offer and questions him changing his mind. Victor muses about only changing his mind after very careful consideration. He asks Victoria to come up with a figure and not to low-ball him before leaving.
At the hotel, Phyllis admits to Amanda that she misses Jack’s thoughtfulness – and he is really funny. She’s trying to make everything incredible and fabulous all the time and if she lives in Milan it will be. Amanda asks what exactly she’d be doing there. Phyllis believes the job is in marketing. “It’s in my wheelhouse.” Amanda supports her taking a trip, but not accepting the job. Not until she talks to someone who knows her better than she does. She sends a text.
At Society, Michael updates Ashland that he’ll be working as private counsel for Victor Newman. Talk turns to the lawsuit and Michael confides that Newman Media is unconcerned – the case doesn’t have legs. Locke muses that he’s certainly living up to his reputation. Michael questions what he knows about him, but Ashland ruminates about his past criminal charges. Michael’s flattered he did his homework, and is also fascinated about Ashland’s business reputation and the article Billy did on him. Ashland summarizes that they’ve both seen it all and live for a good fight. Adam appears and asks if he can join them.
Ashland hopes Adam’s discussion with Victoria went well. The Newman’s sure she’ll tell him all about it. Adam’s taken aback to hear that Michael’s been hired by his father, but recovers and guesses their conversation is about Newman-Locke suing Newman Media. Ashland touts them bring the name back under the flagship company where it belongs. He goes, and Michael tells Adam not to worry bout the lawsuit. “We’ve got it.”
At the hotel, Phyllis is anxious to know who Amanda texted for back-up. She won’t say, so they keep discussing the potential move to Milan and the appeal of the Grand Phoenix. Michael arrives and is the person Amanda texted. Amanda fills him in on the redhead’s plan to leave Genoa City for good. Michael informs his friend, “If I have to stick around, so do you.” Phyllis is irked at Amanda bringing in Michael, who wants to know what brought on her urge to flee. Phyllis explains Summer wants her to work at Marchetti. Michael tells her she can and should say no to the insane offer. She loves Genoa City! He goes over how much she’s grown since the days of manipulating Danny Romalotti and became a person who stands up for what she believes. He’s insulted that she’d even consider bailing. She’s never mentioned wanting to move to Italy so he’s not on board with this. Amanda isn’t either. Michael insists it’s a bad idea for her to be looming over Summer – working for her daughter at Marchetti would destroy their relationship. Phyllis starts to laugh off his concerns, but recoils when he yells at her.
Michael tells Phyllis he needs to know she’s come to her senses so he can be on his way. Phyllis doesn’t know whether to be touched or annoyed. Michael snarls, “Stick with touched,” and points out Amanda called him there because she cares. “Make some changes here in Genoa City.” Phyllis chokes up. He reminded her of the person she used to be. Michael asks what aspect of old school Phyllis they’re referring to. Phyllis assures, “Not that part,” and tells Amanda, “I learned a lot of lessons.” Amanda and Michael agree to endorse a trip to Milan, if only so she and Summer can be reminded how often they clash when in close proximity. Amanda brings up Jack and Phyllis insists he doesn’t figure into this. Michael makes a quizzical face.
At Newman-Locke, Ashland updates Victoria on his run-in with Michael Baldwin. They speculate about Victor’s reasons for reinforcing his legal team. Ashland explains that Adam joined them. They both think he was trying to play a mind game. Victoria is intrigued that Adam didn’t know about Victor hiring Michael and is convinced he’s keeping things from him. “My father stopped by and we had the most interesting conversation.” They puzzle over his angle in bring Michael on board. Victoria knows her father is most differently up to something.
At the ranch, Adam wants to know why Victor didn’t tell him he hired Michael. “Is there something going on I need to know about?” Victor tells him that Victoria came to him the other day and offered to buy Newman Media. Adam guesses he turned her down and figures that’s the reason for the lawsuit. Victor stuns Adam by declaring that he’s seriously entertaining her offer.
