Victor Deals With Ashland’s Blackmail Problem — But Warns He Can Undo It in the Blink of an Eye
Monday, September 27, 2021: Today on The Young and the Restless, Tessa confides in Sharon, Devon spends time with Dominic, and Victoria warns Billy to back off.
At the hotel, Billy learns from Crystal that Gaines’ bill was paid and he checked out. Billy finds it odd he’d suddenly disappear. He spots Victor sitting nearby and approaches him. He questions him spending so much time in Phyllis establishment. He wonders if the name Jessie Gaines rings a bell. He was staying there but now he’s gone and Victor’s there… he doesn’t think it’s a coincidence. Victor chuckles. He gets up and walks away, ignoring Billy’s inquiries.
At Newman, Ashland leaves an agitated voice message when he can’t get a hold of Gaines. Victoria questions him and he provides a vague explanation. She tells him that, once again, it feels like he’s hiding something. Victoria reminds him that there’s nothing he has to hide from her. She won’t reject him regardless. “Let’s just start this conversation over. Tell me, what was that phone call really about?” Nikki interrupts. She updates them that she’s slated Leslie Brooks to perform at their wedding ceremony. Ashland is delighted and makes excuses about having to go make some calls. After he’s gone, Nikki asks Victoria if everything is alright. She murmurs, “Of course.”
At the Chancellor Estate, Abby struggles to comfort the wailing Dominic.
Mariah arrives in her suite and finds a note from Tessa, who has gone out to pick up a few things. She picks up her bag to look for something and finds one of Dominic’s bibs. She flashes through the birth and her attachment to the baby.
At Crimson Lights, Tessa and Sharon discuss Mariah’s state of mind. Sharon thinks it was probably a good idea to put some distance between her and the baby—maybe she’s getting some emotional distance as well? Tessa’s not so sure about that. Offscreen, Tessa fills Sharon in on Mariah’s new plan to get over Dominic by having a baby with her. Tessa feels it’s pretty obvious the idea isn’t coming from a healthy or grounded place. It’s giving her something to hold onto and she doesn’t want to take that away from her… or make promises she may not be able to keep. “How do I handle this? I don’t know what to say to her.”
Tessa tells Sharon she couldn’t hide her shock when Mariah suggested having a baby. Sharon reminds her that Mariah is grieving right now and trying to fill a void. Tessa feels if making plans is helping her, is there any harm in letting it go on a little longer? Sharon warns she’ll get her heart set on this vision only to have it taken away too. “You have to find a way to tell her this.” Tessa knows she’s right… but it’s not going to be easy.
Devon stops by Mariah’s hotel suite to check on her and she wonders if he and Abby have been discussing her mental state. Devon shrugs that Abby just wants everyone to be happy. “We’re all just trying to figure this out together.” He admits he’s not even sure what his role in the baby’s life is going to be. She wonders if he’s discussed it with Abby. He feels she has enough on her plate. Mariah doesn’t know how everything got so out of control. Devon says they just have to let it all settle into place… for him, that will be when Chance comes home. Talk turns to Stitch and Mariah conveys she’s not too worried about him, but she would be relieved if they called to say they found him. She confides that she and Tessa have a plan; another way for her to heal. “I am incredibly excited about where Tessa and I are going.” She urges Devon to tell Abby she’s well on the road to recovery.
Devon arrives at the Chancellor Estate where he’s disappointed to hear Dominic just went down for a nap. Abby gushes about the baby for a minute and then Devon tells her that he asked Amanda to move in with him. She’s thrilled for him. The baby starts crying so Abby runs to get him. She can’t get him to settle, so Devon offers to take him. Abby hands over Dominic, who starts cooing when the billionaire holds him and suggests they go for a walk.
Sharon is contemplating sending a text at the coffee house when Rey comes in. He is all hers for the night. She wants him to save her from running over to the Grand Phoenix and mothering Mariah to death. Sharon says Tessa was just there and made it sound like Mariah is really struggling. Rey is certain she’ll be the first person Tessa comes to if there’s a real emergency. He has some suggestions as to how to divert her attention for now. Sharon’s all ears.
At Newman, Nikki doesn’t want to meddle but it’s clear something is on Victoria’s mind. Victoria relays that Ashland may be keeping something from her—he seems worried but is compelled to assure her that everything is fine. She wonders if Billy is still harassing him. Nikki wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not the only one digging into Ashland’s past.
Ashland enters the Grand Phoenix, where Billy is lying in wait. He guesses Locke is looking for Gaines and informs him he checked out. Victor appears and thanks Ashland for meeting him. Billy hopes he has a table for three; he has some questions for the two of them. Victor calls him a pest. Billy doubts Ashland was meeting Victor there, but Locke insists they were about to have a drink and discuss wedding plans. Victor suggests Ashland join him at the ranch where they’ll have privacy. Billy’s sure he’ll have fond memories of Victor watching him take a heart attack there. Victor tells Billy he’s incorrigible.
Tessa returns to the suite and tells Mariah that she’s excited for the trip to Italy to sing at Victoria’s wedding. Mariah relays that Kyle understood why she couldn’t be the best person at his wedding and turns the conversation to her plans to have a baby. Tessa stops her. “Mariah, I think you’re getting ahead of yourself here. Or at least ahead of me.” Mariah’s taken aback, “Oh.” Tessa doesn’t want to rush this – they need to make sure they’re both ready to take this on; it’s a life-changing move. Mariah just got excited at the idea of raising a child of their own.
In the park, Devon tells Dominic they’re in Chancellor Park, which is named after Katherine. “She was my grandma, which means she is your great-grandma.” Growing up, he’ll hear a lot of stories about her and all the people who helped build this town. “You’ve got the Newmans, the Abbotts, the Chancellors, and you’ve got the Winters. Neil Winters was my dad. I really wish you could meet him.” He assures the baby that he has a lot of roots and will grow up secure, never questioning that he belongs there, which is pretty cool.
At Society, Rey’s dressed up in a shirt he wore on his honeymoon, and Sharon recognizes the song playing as one they danced to. Rey has a menu to evoke honeymoon memories as well. Sharon doesn’t know if he’ll ever top this date. Rey warns they’re just getting started. He has her close her eyes and waves a scent under her nose. She smells tropical flowers. Rey tells her to open her eyes and she spots a bottle of perfume that will transport her back to that magical time in Miami every time she wears it. Sharon has ideas for the rest of the evening and hints that she’ll be wearing nothing but the perfume.
At Crimson Lights, Billy tells Victoria, who is with Nikki, that he ran into Ashland at the hotel—he was looking for Jessie Gaines. He can tell she hasn’t heard the name before and is surprised he didn’t mention him. Victoria snaps at him to back off, leave her alone, leave Ashland alone, and stay out of their lives.
At the ranch, Ashland thanks Victor for covering for him with Billy, whose constant suspicions at every turn are getting to be a bit much. Victor lets Ashland know that he took care of his Jessie Gaines problem and offers him a drink. Over scotch, Victor reveals that he knows Gaines collecte $300,000 a year from him for doing nothing – like an extortion racket. He offered him a lot of money to stay away from Ashland, who can consider it a wedding gift. Victor threatened him with going to jail with blackmail or taking the money he offered and disappearing. He points out their backgrounds are not dissimilar and he’s a firm believer in letting bygones be bygones.
Locke warns Gaines can’t be trusted. Victor’s keeping an eye on him. He makes it clear that he did this for Victoria—she’s never been happier. That’s because of Ashland and he would like it to stay that way. Having said that, he wants Locke to know that what he’s done today, he can undo in the blink of an eye. Ashland will give him no reason to—all he wants is to make Victoria as happy as she’s made him. Victor raises his glass, “As long as it stays that way, you have nothing to worry about. Cheers.”
