Young and Restless actress’ loved one fought breast cancer.

Young and Restless star Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers), also known for playing Nina Reeves on General Hospital, took to her social media on National Cancer Survivors’ Day to give a shout-out to her sister, Janine Stafford, as they celebrated her being cancer-free for seven years and counting. Stafford’s sister was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer in 2012 and was told she was cancer-free in 2013 after completing her treatments and undergoing the last of her surgeries. At the time, Stafford told People, “She responded very well to her treatment; we know that we are lucky, that not all stories go this way. She attributes her success to her great doctors and the positivity she received from her family.”

The diagnosis changed the soap opera star’s outlook on her own life as well, as she explained, “My sister’s cancer obviously changed her life forever. But honestly, I must tell you, it made me examine my own life and who I am as a woman and human being. It made me more honest with myself, caused me to honestly address the choices I had made. And it gave me courage.” She went on to share a message and said, “Live! Take care of yourselves. Love yourselves. Live the life you want. There is no do-over; do it now.”

Stafford began her skincare line after her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and she began taking a look at the chemicals we put into our bodies on a daily basis. She learned most products contain harmful toxins, then set out to develop a line of products that were organic and natural. This became Stafford’s Skin Nation. The cruelty-free, plant-based line was founded on the belief that everyone should be able to benefit from using clean and inexpensive skincare, and also comes in ocean waste plastic packaging.
