5 Unforgettable Moments in the Volatile Sheila, Scott, and Lauren Love Triangle
One of Young and Restless’ most epic rivalries started over a man.
As CBS airs a classic Young and Restless episode featuring Sheila keeping Scott away from Lauren, Soaps.com went back to the history of this volatile triangle, which set the scene for one of the most frightening rivalries in soap operas, that of Lauren Fenmore (Tracey Bregman) and Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown)…
Lauren married Dr. Scott Grainger (Peter Barton) after the death of her father, Neil Fenmore (Jim Storm). Scott was a doctor at Genoa City Memorial, where a nurse named Sheila began working and instantly fell for the married man.
Sheila drugged Scott and had sex with him, which resulted in her becoming pregnant with his child. Lauren was also pregnant, but didn’t tell her husband. When Sheila’s pregnancy was revealed, Scott divorced Lauren to honor his obligation to Sheila and their unborn child.
Sheila miscarried, but kept quiet about it and purchased an infant boy from the black market. Since Lauren and Sheila were both due to give birth around the same time, Sheila was able to switch out Lauren’s newborn son for the baby she had acquired. She proceeded to pass off Lauren’s baby as her own and named him Scotty Jr. The infant Lauren was raising, Dylan, died of meningitis.
Sheila’s mother, Molly (Marilyn Alex) learned the truth, and though she was speechless for a time was eventually able to expose her daughter. During the ensuing confrontation, Sheila tried to kill Lauren by setting fire to her mother’s cabin, but Molly and Lauren escaped, while Sheila was presumed dead. Lauren and Scott reconciled and became a family with their child.
Lauren was shocked to get an invitation to the wedding of her old friend, Eric Forrester (John McCook), who was marrying none other than Sheila Carter. Lauren kept the news from Scott, who had contracted a fatal disease and was keeping it from his wife. Sheila learned Scott was dying, visited him, and received his forgiveness. Lauren tried to expose Sheila to Eric by showing up on Catalina Island with Scott during their trip, but Scott pleaded with Lauren to keep Sheila’s secret. When Scott died while on the island, Lauren elected to keep her deathbed promise to give Sheila another chance.
