Young and the Restless actor born in Australia becomes US citizen.

Update June 12, we congratulate Young & Restless actor Daniel Goddard (Cane Ashby), who revealed on Twitter that he’s finally completed his swearing-in and taking his oath as a United States citizen. While he passed his citizenship test in March, because of the situation of the times, he was unable to take the final swearing-in due to social distancing guidelines.

On March 19 Soaps.com congratulated Young and the Restless actor Daniel Goddard (Cane Ashby), who revealed on Instagram that he’s taken and passed his US citizenship test last week. “I believe in America! I love this country so very much. Just like a love Australia. I will always be Australian… it’s who I am at my core. It governs the way I see things. It colors my sense of humor, and it shapes the way I feel about so many different aspects of my life… but here I now am now living in America… in this beautiful majestic country that has given me so very much.” He goes on to reveal, “I just wanted to share that, last Thursday, after years of waiting I was finally given the opportunity and blessing to go and sit my US Citizenship test! And… I passed! As an immigrant, who came to this magnificent in search of his dreams I am so proud to become a citizen of this great land.”

Goddard was born Daniel Richard Goddard on August 28, 1971 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. His first television role was as Eric Phillips on the Australian soap opera Home and Away in 1995. Shortly after, Goddard left for Hollywood, where modeled for Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana, and appeared as a showcase model on The Price is Right. He eventually landed the role of Dar on the syndicated action drama Beastmaster (1999 – 2002), based on the 1982 film The Beastmaster. He returned to his native home of Australia to film the show.

In 2007 Goddard was cast as Cane Ashby on Young and the Restless. He was released from the role in 2011, but fans hired a plane to save Goddard’s job on the CBS soap opera. In 2019 he was let go again. His character Cane was implicated in a scam perpetrated by his father Colin (Tristan Rogers) to swindle Devon (Bryton James) out of his fortune. Cane left town to prove his innocence, find his father and bring him to justice.

Due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, Goddard’s swearing-in ceremony has been postponed. Nevertheless, he gleefully shared the news of what was supposed to be his swearing-in day. “And tomorrow March 19th was supposed to be my swearing-in ceremony… but because of the #coronavirus it has been indefinitely postponed. Never the less tomorrow irrespective of not being able to raise my hand and recite the #pledgeofallegiance I will still feel like an American.” Goddard was married to Canadian actress and voice artist Rachael Marcus on February 3, 2002 and the couple has two sons, born February 2006 and December 2008.
