Goddard was born Daniel Richard Goddard on August 28, 1971 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. His first television role was as Eric Phillips on the Australian soap opera Home and Away in 1995. Shortly after, Goddard left for Hollywood, where modeled for Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana, and appeared as a showcase model on The Price is Right. He eventually landed the role of Dar on the syndicated action drama Beastmaster (1999 – 2002), based on the 1982 film The Beastmaster. He returned to his native home of Australia to film the show.
In 2007 Goddard was cast as Cane Ashby on Young and the Restless. He was released from the role in 2011, but fans hired a plane to save Goddard’s job on the CBS soap opera. In 2019 he was let go again. His character Cane was implicated in a scam perpetrated by his father Colin (Tristan Rogers) to swindle Devon (Bryton James) out of his fortune. Cane left town to prove his innocence, find his father and bring him to justice.
Due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, Goddard’s swearing-in ceremony has been postponed. Nevertheless, he gleefully shared the news of what was supposed to be his swearing-in day. “And tomorrow March 19th was supposed to be my swearing-in ceremony… but because of the #coronavirus it has been indefinitely postponed. Never the less tomorrow irrespective of not being able to raise my hand and recite the #pledgeofallegiance I will still feel like an American.” Goddard was married to Canadian actress and voice artist Rachael Marcus on February 3, 2002 and the couple has two sons, born February 2006 and December 2008.
