The Young and the Restless and Passions alum in new R-rated comedy.

Justin Hartley (ex-Adam Newman, The Young and the Restless; Fox Crane Passions) is set to return for season four of his hit NBC series This is Us on September 24, but he also has another project soon to be released. Soaps.com has discovered that Hartley will appear in the comedy Jexi in theaters October 11.

In Jexi, Adam Devine (The Righteous Gemstones) stars as a man named Phil who works for a pop culture listicle based website and is obsessed with his new phone. A phone, whose Siri-like virtual assistant named Jexi (voiced by Rose Byrne, Bridesmaids) bluntly comments on the sad state of his life in real-time. When Phil starts dating a woman named Cate (Alexandra Shipp, Love Simon; Mary Beth, Days of our Lives), he starts to become less attached to his phone, causing Jexi to act out and wreak havoc on his life.

More: Sean Blakemore in Ad Astra, Trent Dawson to Mrs. Maisel

If the trailer is any indication, Hartley plays a minor character in the movie that also stars Michael Péna (Narcos: Mexico), Charlyne Yi (Always Be My Maybe) and Wanda Sykes (Black-ish). He can be seen around the 2:22 mark of the preview, as his character attempts to butt into a conversation between Phil and Cate. Let’s just say it does not end well for him.

Hartley is also set to star in The Hunt, an action horror film co-starring Betty Gilpin (GLOW) and Emma Roberts (American Horror Story). In addition, the soap alum is attached to the dramedy The Exchange starring Ed Oxenbould (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day), about an awkward teenager whose mail order best friend isn’t what he expected.
