Young and Restless actress signs on for new role.
Actress Eileen Davidson, who recently returned to The Young and the Restless as Ashley Abbott for two episodes after leaving her daytime roles at both Y&R and Days of our Lives (Kristen DiMera, Susan Banks) to spend more time with family, is attached to an series being developed entitled Secrets & Shame: Dear Oprah Diaries. Soaps.com has details for the upcoming project…
The new series will be based on the book of the same name by James W. Mercer PH.D., who wrote the biography to tell the story of growing up with his abusive father, Harry, who banished him from the family home in Texas after calling James a ‘sissy’ and telling him he wished he’d die of AIDS. Mercer recalls how he turned to drugs and alcohol before hitting rock bottom, then undergoing a spiritual awakening. In the book, Mercer writes ‘Dear Oprah’ letters, hence the title. Eileen Davidson has been cast as Jessie Mercer in the series, which is in development. Other cast named thus far include Christy McGinity Gibel (Little Women: LA), who will play the role of a foster parent. James Mercer will also appear as himself in Secrets & Shame: The Oprah Diaries.
Davidson will return to Young and Restless later this month for the tribute to the late Kristoff St. John. They were longtime co-stars and St. John played her character’s onscreen boyfriend, Neil Winters, before Ashley’s move to Paris after a falling out with her family over business.
Secrets & Shame: The Oprah Diaries is slated to debut in February 2020. Stay tuned to Soaps.com for more information as it becomes available.
