Thad Luckinbill Produces and Stars in ’12 Strong’

A major motion picture before soap opera return.
Soaps.com has learned that Thad Luckinbill, who reprised his role of JT Hellstrom on “The Young and the Restless” in December 2017, has an exciting movie project hitting theatres this week on January 19. “12 Strong,” which stars actor Chris Hemsworth of “Thor” fame and “Heart of the Sea,” was produced by Luckinbill and his brother Trent, as well as Jerry Bruckheimer, and Molly Smith. However, Luckinbill also has a significant role in the film as an actor, playing one of the 12 horse soldiers in the true declassified story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11. The team, under the leadership of a new captain (Hemsworth), must work with an Afghan warlord in an effort to down the Taliban. Other starring roles in the film include Hemsworth’s wife, Elsa Pataky, who plays his onscreen wife, Michael Shannon (“Boardwalk Empire”), William Fichtner (“Black Hawk Down,” Rod Landry/Josh Snyder, “As the World Turns”), Taylor Sheridan (“Sons of Anarchy”), Michael Pena (“Narcos”), and Geoff Stults (“Wedding Crashers,” “7th Heaven”).
Luckinbill is no stranger to producing movies; he executive-produced the big screen hit “La La Land,” and is also credited on films such as “Demolition,” and “Only the Brave,” and most recently completed production on “Sierra Burgess is a Liar,” which stars “This Is Us” actress Chrissy Metz. Luckinbill’s much-hyped return to Y&R has proven to be a success thus far as fans not only enjoy the history past character JT has brought to the show, but also the family drama involving his teenage son, Reed (Tristan LeBeau) and his ex-wife, Victoria (Amelia Heinle), with whom he’s shared some appreciably steamy scenes recently.
