Thad Luckinbill Talks Y&R Return As J.T. And Reconnecting With Cast
J.T. is older, wiser and more fun to play.
Thad Luckinbill returns to The Young and the Restless as J.T. Hellstrom next week. Based on the actor’s recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, it seems he is just as excited as the fans are for J.T. to re-enter Genoa City. Soaps.com has highlighted a few snippets from the interview detailing his thoughts on being back and how it all came about.
For those who don’t know, Luckinbill has a very lucrative career outside of daytime as a producer on films such as “La La Land.” He will also appear in an upcoming film, which he is producing, called “12 Strong” starring Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”). His success means he’s a busy guy, but luckily he had a hole in his schedule that “Y&R” nicely filled.
As he told SOD, he’s kept in contact with “Y&R” and had conversations about returning a few times over the years, but nothing gelled schedule-wise. But that changed during their most recent talks, as Luckinbill explained, “At first, I didn’t think it would work out, but it just happened to coordinate with my schedule in between films, and after talking for quite a while about it, it sounded like fun, so here I am.”
Now that he’s returned, he shared, “I really, really love being back there and being able to act every day. It’s a lot of volume. You’re throwing a lot out there, doing a lot of scenes in a day. You don’t get to do that on a film set or even a TV show, so it’s pretty fun.”
Catching up with the people of “Y&R” is also special to the actor/producer, as he said, “I haven’t seen a lot of those people in years, but one of the really cool things that you find in soaps, but even more so at ‘Y&R,’ is it’s sort of a family.” Luckinbill went on to mention cast mates he’s heard from over the years regarding his success including Doug Davidson (Paul) and Peter Bergman (Jack), as well as him reaching out to David Lago (ex-Raul) when he first got to set.
Unfortunately, Luckinbill didn’t give any spoilers about what brings J.T. to Genoa City or what effect it will have on his ex-wife Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and their son Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu). He only mused that J.T. was in high school when he first started on the show and now he’s a father of a teenager. So, things will definitely be different. “I actually like this age as a character,” he said. “It’s a lot more fun to play. It’s been a fun ride so far.”
