Remembering a legendary actress and singer.

Soaps.com is sad to report that veteran actress, singer and “The Young and the Restless” guest-star Della Reese passed away on Sunday November 19 in California at the age of 86. Born on July 6, 1931, she was best known for her role as Tess on “Touched by an Angel” from 1994 to 2003.

Of her death, co-star Roma Downey, who played Monica on the series, posted on Instagram, “Heaven has a brand new angel Della today. On behalf of her husband, Franklin Lett, and all her friends and family, I share with you the news that our beloved Della Reese has passed away peacefully at her California home surrounded by love. She was an incredible Wife, Mother, Grandmother, friend, and Pastor, as well as an award-winning actress and singer. Through her life and work she touched and inspired the lives of millions of people. She was a mother to me and I had the privilege of working with her side by side for so many years on ‘Touched By An Angel’. I know heaven has a brand new angel this day. Della Reese will be forever in our hearts. Rest In Peace, sweet angel. We love you.”

The actress appeared in a guest-starring role della-reese-aunt-virginia-yr-sson “The Young and the Restless” in the May 18 and 19, 2009 episodes as Aunt Virginia, Devon’s great aunt, who attended Cane and Lily Ashby’s wedding. In later years, Reese appeared in various holiday movies as well as in Hallmark’s original series “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” as Cora Brandt. She was also an ordained minister.
