A terrible accident.

In this week’s “The Young And The Restless” Throwback Thursday Soaps.com takes readers back to the early 1990s when Doris Collins ended up in a wheelchair…

Sharon’s secret is currently taking a major toll on her. Years ago, she carried around an enormous amount of guilt, due to her mother’s accident. Sharon (first played by Monica Potter) and her mother made their home in Madison, Wisconsin where Doris raised her daughter as a single parent whose husband walked out on them. She grew up with Grace Turner as her best friend and spent a lot of time with her high school sweetheart Frank Barritt.

When Sharon didn’t come home one night, Doris jumped in her car and set out looking for her daughter. What started out as a mother frantic to locate her teenager turned into a real tragedy when Doris was involved in a bad car accident. Sharon harbored a lot of guilt, as she was forced to watch her mother readjust to life in a wheelchair. Sharon became pregnant at sixteen, and Doris convinced her to give the baby (Cassie) up for adoption for fear that they couldn’t take care of and provide for the little girl. The Collins later moved to Genoa City, where Sharon met and fell in love with Nick Newman.

Do you remember how Sharon described the weather on the night of her mother’s accident when she told Nick how Doris ended up in a wheelchair? Vote in our “Y&R” poll below.
