Hogan Sheffer, former head writer of Days of Our Lives and As the World Turns , has been named co-head writer of The Young and the Restless. Sheffer will join co-writer Maria Arena Bell at the helm of the top-rated daytime drama.

Hogan, so nick-named by his brother, actor Craig Sheffer, because he resembles pianist/composer Hoagy Carmichael, was actually born Mark Wayne Sheffer in 1958 in Pennsylvania. He began his career as a freelancer and worked at script analysis for various production companies. He is most well-known for his stint as headwriter for As the World Turns from 2000-2005 when he reinvigorated the soap much to fans surprise. He was however, criticized by some long time fans for ignoring the history of core characters.

During the recent writer’s strike, Hogan Sheffer went on financial core status and continued working. His tenure with Days of Our Lives ended in January of this year.

Soaps.com wishes Hogan Sheffer best of luck as he joins the team at The Young and the Restless!
