It’s true! Y&R’s Dan Goddard (Cane Ashby) will be participating in the 31st Annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race in Long Beach, California on April 14th! The 10-lap sprint-style race will be held along the seaside street course in Long Beach on a 1.97 mile, 11-turn race circuit. Celebrity drivers will be competing against professional drivers in identically prepared, race-ready, Scion tC sports coupes.

Dan and the other celebrity drivers must first complete training, both in classroom and on-track, at Danny McKeever’s FAST LANE Racing School, which is the “Official Racing School of Toyota Motorsports”. The annual race raises money for charity. Specifically, Toyota donates $5000 per driver, which this year, as in the past, will benefit Miller Children’s Hospital of Long Beach and Children’s Hospital of Orange County. An additional $5000 is donated to the winning driver’s charity of choice. Also, in conjunction with the “People Pole Award”, sponsored by People Magazine, $15000 will be made to the pole winner’s charity of choice! Toyota has donated over $1.5 million to charity in association with this race since 1991.

Many daytime stars have participated in this celebrity race over the years. Lorenzo Lamas (ex-Hector, B&B) competed in 1985 and 1986, Crystal Bernard (ex-Terry, General Hospital) raced in 1993, and The Young and the Restless’s own Kate Linder (Esther) raced in 1996! Y&R’s great Victor Newman, Eric Braeden, ran the race in 1997, and was joined by his Y&R son, Joshua Morrow (Nick) in 1998! The Young and the Restless again was represented in 1999, this time by Lauralee Bell (Christine)! Joshua Morrow re-entered in 2000, and All My Children’s dashing Mateo, Mark Consuelos, tried his hand at the wheel in 2001. In 2002, Jacob Young (ex-Rick, B&B, J.R., AMC) participated, while Peter Reckell (Bo, Days of Our Lives) came on board in 2003. Finally, in 2005, Ingo Rademacher, General Hospital’s dashing Jasper Jax, joined in the fun, and Joshua Morrow gave it another run in 2007, narrowly missing the win! For trivia buffs, two daytime stars actually won their races: Lorenzo Lamas in 1985, and Peter Reckell in 2003!

Although there is no wagering on the race, gambling authority, Anthony Curtis, rated the racers for fun giving Dan Goddard 23-1 odds, saying, “Rumor has it he’ll be a contender if he can keep his adrenaline in check!” Qualifying takes place on April 13th, followed by the race on April 14th.
