What Someone Really, Really Needs to Tell Bold & Beautiful’s Hope — Plus, Who the Heck Does ‘Felony Flo’ Think She Is?

On Thursday’s episode of The Bold and the Beautiful, Wyatt found his brother eating a roast-beef sandwich, and I’m only half-kidding when I say it was my favorite moment of the entire week. Make of that what you will while we talk about the other goings-on this week and dish out some hard truths to a couple of folks in need of a little tough love.
Who’s Your Daddy?
Several times this week, Liam and Hope discussed the fact that their future would all come down to whether or not he had fathered Steffy’s baby. And while I’m sure that’ll have a big impact on all their lives, I can’t for the life of me figure out why Hope would let that be the deciding factor where her marriage is concerned.
During one of his groveling sessions, Liam perhaps put it best when he said, “What I’m really asking you is to forgive what I wouldn’t.” That may be the most self-actualized thing this guy has ever said. Because it’s important that nobody forget he slid between the sheets with Steffy for no other reason than that he thought he had seen his wife kissing Thomas.
Kissing. Not in bed with. At least Days of Our Lives‘ Chad — who made a very similar mistake recently — believed his wife to be sleeping with another man. Liam used Hope supposedly kissing someone to justify his own decision to have sex with the woman he supposedly love’s nemesis.
So no, Hope, there is absolutely no reason for you to sit around waiting for those paternity-test results. Liam’s actions have told you — repeatedly — everything you need to know. It’s time to show him the door.
Who’s Your Daddy 2: Electric Boogaloo
Finn’s response to the situation is a little bit more understandable. He’s like, “Listen, I’m not thrilled that you slept with your ex, but I love you and I’m willing to try and work this out.” That’s actually a pretty modern attitude, especially for this show, which tends to use a moral compass which got stuck somewhere around 1952.
What do I mean when I say that? Remember when Steffy, Liam and Hope spent months talking about how they were going to be one, big blended family, as if this was some wild new concept as opposed to the daily life of millions of viewers? Or when Hope just had to play Mommy to Douglas because a child being raised by a single father was an unimaginable horror?
Heck, the show has repeatedly built big story about the impact of a kiss — whether Hope supposedly sharing one with Thomas or Brooke actually planting one on Bill — as opposed to sexual encounters.
I’ve said it before, but it’s truer now than ever: Finn really needs a friend or family member. We need to hear him talk about his feelings with someone other than Steffy, to whom he might not be able to fully vent his frustration.
In any case, it seems inevitable that Liam’s the father, don’t you think? There’s not much drama to be had in it turning out to be Finn. What happens then, everybody wipes their brow and says, “Phew, dodged a bullet on that one! OK, moving on!”
Flo, Party of One? Your Seat Is Ready. Please Take It.
In the past, Young & Restless/Bold & Beautiful have done some truly epic crossovers, usually involving Lauren and Sheila. But I can’t say I really get the point of this latest non-event. Yes, Summer got the dirt on nemesis Sally, but that all happened on Young & Restless, and next week’s Bold & Beautiful teasers don’t have word one about this storyline. Perhaps at some point Wyatt will find out that Flo spilled the beans and that will cause them a few problems, but overall, the whole thing felt like much ado about nothing.
That said, we still need to talk about Flo feeling free to discuss Sally’s past with a complete stranger. “You deserve to know the truth,” Flo said about six seconds after meeting Summer. While I’m not sure exactly what Summer did to “deserve” the info, I do know it certainly was not Flo’s story to tell, especially given her own way-beyond-questionable past behavior.
Hon, there’s a reason viewers have dubbed you “Felony Flo.”
I’m also not really sure how the fact that Sally did terrible things to Flo has any real bearing on things back in Genoa City, but that’s a matter for Candace to discuss in her own weekly column.
Better Late Than Never
Apparently, Zoe was perfectly fine with being engaged to Carter while crushing on Zende. But once Carter made it clear that he was no more interested in a long engagement than has anyone on this show ever been, his would-be bride decided it was time to confront Zende about the sparks they’d been throwing off.
As with a lot of folks on this show lately, I found myself wondering what we’re supposed to think about Zoe. I suspect they want this to come off as wildly romantic, especially given that whole text that never got sent, which she’s now seen. To me, it’s a rushed mess in which Zoe looks downright cruel where her dealings with Carter are concerned.
Zende comes off slightly better, because while he was flirting with Zoe, one gets the sense he flirts with everyone and everything. I’m pretty sure I saw him winking at one of Pam’s lemon bars last week. Also, while he has kissed Paris, they aren’t in a committed relationship, let alone engaged.
Quote of the Week
“I have a meeting to get to. Wyatt, I will talk to you later about why you’re dressed like a grape.” — Bill, apparently nixing Wyatt as Eye on Fashion‘s next cover model.
Take a peek inside Darin Brooks’ real-life marriage to Kelly Kruger. “It’s not perfect, but… ”
• I have never been surer of anything in my life than this: Never again will the words “I blew us up over a mannequin” be uttered by any character on any soap. And that makes me kinda sad.
• Um, what the heck did they do to Thomas while they were in there fixing his head injury? Clearly, they uncrossed some wires, because how else to explain him suddenly being all #TeamLope and urging the object of his obsession to reunite with her lying, cheating spouse?
Now that I’ve offered up my take on this week’s episodes, let’s hear yours. Do you want to see Zoe and Zende admit their feelings? Should Hope forgive Liam? Does Wyatt really look like a grape in that outfit?
