Deconstructing B&B: Shocking Presumed Death Marks November Sweeps

November 11 - 15

Thomas' face in the acid vat Bold and Beautiful

The Bold and the Beautiful relied a tad heavily on flashbacks and repetitive dialogue given that it’s November sweeps, but the drama surrounding Thomas falling into the vat was soapy goodness, even if most don’t believe he’s dead.

Looking ahead

Aside from Hope realizing that Thomas fell into a vat of hydrofluoric acid and going into shock and paroxysms of guilt, the week featured a lot of dialogue going over similar themes – Brooke and Ridge reiterating their positions on Thomas, and Liam and Steffy debating Hope wanting custody of Douglas. Liam’s impending return to Spencer Publications came up here and there, and I’m looking forward to that, as well as Thanksgiving, which is just around the corner and always brings the Forrester mansion sit-down dinner. I also thought it was interesting that Ridge elected not to tell Brooke that Shauna’s staying in the Forrester guesthouse during their conversation…will there be a run-in on the holiday or will Ridge and Brooke be finished by then? Hmm.

Shock and guilt

It’s hard to believe that straight-arrow Hope didn’t call the police or at the very least confess to Charlie about what happened to Thomas, but there was good drama in her returning to Brooke’s house and flooring her mother with the news that she’d killed Thomas (ironically after pushing him away as Brooke did on the cliff). Hope was very convincingly reeling with shock and guilt, but the episode with the whole flashback run-through of events leading up to his fall felt dragged out and unnecessary given that we had just seen it happen. The last Deconstructing B&B, speculated that Thomas isn’t dead, and as much of a stretch as surviving a dunk in deadly acid is, a poll of Soaps.com readers show 66% believe he is still alive. I just can’t help but wonder why he wasn’t disfigured or screaming when he floated to the top. Regardless, it’s fun to imagine how and when Thomas might choose to make his reappearance.
