Exclusive honor.
Soaps.com has learned that “The Bold and the Beautiful” has received the sole nomination in the category of Outstanding Daily Drama for 2016 in the 28th Annual GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards. As with B&B’s nomination in the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards last year, the nod honors the continuing storyline involving Maya Avant (Karla Mosley), a transgender woman, who achieved her dream of becoming a model at Forrester Creations, and faced negativity in the press before marrying Rick Forrester (Jacob Young) and gaining the acceptance of his family. As Maya and Rick’s story continued, she dealt with the daunting task of convincing her own estranged parents to embrace her as Maya, which proved to be a difficult and emotional undertaking particularly where her father, Julius (Obba Babatunde), was concerned. In 2016, Rick and Maya welcomed their first child, Lizzie Forrester, into the world thanks to Maya’s sister Nicole (Reign Edwards) who agreed to act as their surrogate. Currently, while Maya revels in being a first-time mother, Rick is facing dissension among his family members at Forrester Creations as he has once again been passed over for a promotion.

The GLAAD awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and the issues that affect their lives. This year’s ceremonies are set to take place in Los Angeles on Saturday April 1, and in New York on Saturday May 6.
