Well, it looks like the big twist that Bold & Beautiful has been teasing for months now has finally come to tragic fruition: Tanner Novlan is out, and Finn is really, most sincerely dead.

The actor, who’s married to Bold & Beautiful alum Kayla Ewell (ex-Caitlin), provided a breath of fresh air for Steffy (and us!) when he began playing  Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan in July of 2020. Here was a genuinely decent man, free from any family entanglements and safely outside the Steffy/Liam/Hope triangle. Plus, he was a doctor. And he loved Steffy so much, he barely even blinked when her drunken one-night stand with Liam left her unsure of who Hayes’ daddy was. But thank God it was Finn’s. Their baby was born, the two married and it was happily ever after.

Or, it would have been, because if Finn seemed too good to be true, it’s because he was. We didn’t even make it through the wedding before learning that Sheila, of all people, was his biological mother, and she’d returned to town to finally build a relationship with him. Little did we know, that was the beginning of the end of  Finn.

Virtually everything that’s happened since, from Sheila’s pushing to be a part of Steffy’s family, to spiking Brooke’s drink has led to this moment. Collateral damage is what she does, even if that’s her own son. In fact, now that we look back at it, the writing’s seemed to be on the wall for some time before Sheila tried to kill Steffy and wound up offing her beloved son instead.
