Daytime Emmys 2020 Nominations Revealed for Soap Operas – & There Are Some Real Surprises

Final nominees announced for soap opera stars’ 2019 work.

In October 2019, we reported that there would be three ceremonies for the 47th Daytime Emmy Awards in June. However, in March The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced that the event had been postponed followed by an April update that the ceremony would stream virtually. Yesterday, after 5 years of not being on television, news came that this year’s 2020 Daytime Emmy Awards would be televised on CBS in a remote ceremony on Friday June 26.

Though the pre-nominations were not announced this year, due to “the unanimous request of the Daytime Drama community,” we are excited to bring soap opera fans the nominations for Bold and Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital and Young and the Restless actors’ work from 2019 storylines. All of the nominees were announced live on CBS’ The Talk.

Pre-nominated soap opera actors had to submit up to 15 minute reels consisting of any clips from any episodes, excluding montages, from the 2019 calendar year. Nominated soap opera actors did not have an episode limit when submitting reels. All category entries, including Pre-Nominations for Drama and Digital Drama Performer, were judged on a 10 – 1 scale with 10 the most worthy and 1 the least worthy as a way to “unify the judging criteria across disciplines as well as across the NATAS contests.” This year, digital web series were combined with Bold and Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital and Young and the Restless in the technical categories.

<p>The 47th Daytime Emmy Awards will be televised on CBS on Friday June 26 at 8:00 PM. This is the first time in five years since they’ve been on TV. Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital and Young and the Restless are nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. </p>

<p>Bold and the Beautiful’s Thorsten Kaye is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor. He’s played the role of Ridge Forrester since 2012. Kaye was once Patrick Thornhart on One Life to Live, Dr. Ian Thornhart on Port Charles, and Zach Slater on All My Children.</p>

<p>Days of our Lives’ Thaao Penghlis is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor for his role as Andre DiMera. He’s played dual roles on the NBC soap, Andre and Tony DiMera, since 1981.</p>

<p>General Hospital’s Steve Burton is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor. He plays Jason Morgan on the ABC soap and has since 1991.</p>

<p>General Hospital’s Jon Lindstrom is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor for appearing as twins Dr. Kevin Collins and Ryan Chamberlain. He’s played the dual role since 1992.</p>

<p>Young and the Restless’ Jason Thompson is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor. He has played Billy Abbott since 2016. Thompson was once Dr. Patrick Drake on General Hospital.</p>

<p>Bold and the Beautiful’s Katherine Kelly Lang is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress for Brooke Logan. She created the role in 1987. </p>

<p>Bold and the Beautiful’s Heather Tom is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress. She’s played Katie Logan since 2007. She used to portray Victoria Newman on Young and the Restless from 1990-2003.</p>

<p>Days of our Lives’ Adrienne Zucker is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress for Nicole Walker. She’s appeared in the role since 1998.</p>

<p>General Hospital’s Finola Hughes is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress for Anna Devane. She’s been with the ABC soap as twins Anna and Alex Devane since 1985.</p>

<p>General Hospital’s Maura West is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress. She’s played Ava Jerome since 2013 and first came to Port Charles under the name Denise DeMuccio. Do you remember her as Carly Snyder on As the World Turns?</p>

<p>Days of our Lives’ Wally Kurth is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for Justin Kiriakis. He’s played the role on the NBC soap since 1987 and also plays Ned Quartermaine on ABC’s General Hospital.</p>

<p>Days of our Lives’ Chandler Massey is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor. He’s played the role of Will Horton since 2010.</p>

<p>Days of our Lives’ Paul Telfer is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for Xander Kiriakis. The actor created the role in 2015.</p>

<p>General Hospital’s James Patrick Stuart is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for Valentin Cassadine. He took over the role in 2016.</p>

<p>Young and the Restless’ Mark Grossman is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for Adam Newman. He replaced Justin Hartley in May 2019. </p>

<p>Young and the Restless’ Bryton James is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for Devon Hamilton Winters. The actor created the role in 2004. </p>

<p>Bold and the Beautiful’s Annika Noelle is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress for Hope Logan. She’s the latest actress to have played the role since 2018.</p>

<p>Days of our Lives’ Susan Seaforth Hayes is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress for Julie Williams. She’s been with the NBC soap opera since 1968. </p>

<p>General Hospital’s Tamara Braun is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress for Dr. Kim Nero. She created the role in 2017, but before that played Carly Corinthos on the ABC soap.</p>

<p>General Hospital’s Rebecca Budig is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress for Hayden Barnes. She created the role in 2014.</p>

<p>Young and the Restless’ Christel Khalil is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress for Lily Winters. She’s played the role since 2002 and is now recurring.</p>

<p>Days of our Lives’ Olivia Rose Keegan is nominated for Outstanding Younger Performer for Claire Brady. She’s appeared in the role since 2015. She left the role for a while and is returning this summer.</p>

<p>Days of our Lives’ Thia Megia is nominated for Outstanding Younger Performer. She created the role of Haley Chen in 2018. The character was killed off in 2019 but as always in soaps we never say never to a return.</p>

<p>General Hospital’s Katelyn MacMullen is nominated for Outstanding Younger Performer as Willow Tait. She created the ABC soap role in 2018.</p>

<p>General Hospital’s Eden McCoy is nominated for Outstanding Younger Performer. She took over the role as an aged Josslyn Jacks in 2015. She’s Carly and Jax’s daughter.</p>

<p>Young and the Restless’ Sasha Calle is nominated for Outstanding Younger Performer for Lola Rosales. She created the CBS soap role in 2018.</p>

<p>General Hospital’s Michael E. Knight is nominated for Outstanding Guest Performer. He created the role of Martin Gray in September 2019 as Nelle Benson’s attorney. You’ll remember Knight from All My Children as Tad Martin.</p>

<p>Young and the Restless’ Elissa Kapneck is nominated for Outstanding Guest Performer. She appeared as Sasha, a mother of an abandoned baby found on the Newman Ranch, in December 2019.</p>

<p>Young and the Restless’ Jeffrey Vincent Parise is nominated for Outstanding Guest Performer. He arrived in Genoa City in November 2019 as Simon Black and confronted Chelsea about the money her dead husband Calvin owed him. Remember him from General Hospital? He used to play Carlos Rivera.</p>
