Daytime alums starring in new fantasy, sci-fi and action series.

New streaming series are popping up everywhere and Another World, Days of our Lives and One Life to Live alums are going along for the ride. Soaps.com also has news of a former Young and the Restless star joining the final season of a fan-favorite series.

Dennis Haysbert to Lucifer

Per Entertainment Weekly, Dennis Haysbert (Ron Clark, The Young and the Restless; The Unit) has been cast in the fifth and final season of Lucifer. The series, about the devil (Tom Ellis) and his celestial brother Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) living on Earth, welcomes Haysbert as the brothers’ father, God. Woodside and Haysbert previously played brothers on the FOX drama 24. Season four of Lucifer ended with Chloe (Lauren German) confessing her love to Lucifer, just as he decided to return to rule Hell. Lucifer was canceled after three seasons on FOX, but was picked up for a fourth season by Netflix. It is expected to return to the streamer for its final season in 2020.

Patrika Darbo on 9-1-1: Lone Star

9-1-1’s spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star will premiere on January 19 on FOX at 8:00 PM. The new series is about a New York firefighter who relocates to Austin, Texas with his firefighter son. It stars Rob Lowe (Parks and Recreation), Liv Tyler (The Leftovers), and Brian Michael Smith (Queen Sugar). The series second episode will air on January 20, the night after the series premiere, and will feature soap opera alum Patrika Darbo (Violet, Studio City; Nancy Wesley, Days of our Lives, Last Blast Reunion; Shirley Spectra, The Bold and the Beautiful).

Michelle Hurd in Star Trek: Picard

CBS All Access will premiere the latest Star Trek franchise installment, Star Trek: Picard, on January 23. Patrick Stewart reprises his Star Trek: The Next Generation role as Jean-Luc Picard in the series set 20 years after Picard’s last appearance in 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis. Soap opera alum Michelle Hurd (Dana Kramer, Another World; Hawaii Five-0) joins the cast as Raffi Musiker, a former Starfleet intelligence officer struggling with substance abuse. The series also stars Alison Pill (American Horror Story), Santiago Cabrera (Big Little Lies), and Jonathan Frakes, who reprises his Star Trek role as William Riker.

Sherri Saum’s Locke & Key premiere

As Soaps.com previously reported, One Life to Live and Sunset Beach alum Sherri Saum stars in Locke and Key, the upcoming Netflix fantasy series premiering February 7. Saum plays a teacher with a link to the central family who moves into the father’s family home after his death. They soon discover the house contains magical keys giving them powers and abilities. The series, based on the graphic novels of the same name, also stars Darby Stanchfield (Scandal), Kevin Alves (Shadowhunters), Asha Bromfield (Riverdale), and Connor Jessup (American Crime).
