On December 5, 2019 we reported, sometimes it’s easy to forget when watching our favorite soap opera that behind each character is a writer for their storyline. Every year the Writers Guild of America, a labor union representing television and film writers, honor those working in television, news, radio, promotional writing, graphic animation and daytime. Soaps.com has the daytime nominees, as well as details for the 72nd Annual Writers Guild of America Awards, which will be held simultaneously in California at The Beverly Hilton at 9876 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, California and at the Edison Ballroom at 240 West 47th Street in New York City, New York on Saturday February 1, 2020. Though Bold and Beautiful was not nominated this year, the nominees for Best Daytime Drama for Days of our Lives, General Hospital and Young and the Restless go as follows for scenes from their work in 2019…

Days of our Lives writers

Ron Carlivati, Lorraine Broderick, Joanna Cohen, Carolyn Culliton, Richard Culliton, Rick Draughon, Dave Kreizman, Rebecca McCarty, Ryan Quan, Dave Ryan, Betsy Snyder and Katie Schock.

There are a few special instructions to note for submissions in the daytime category, as listed by the Writers Guild, states, “Furnish three scripts (not necessarily in sequence) together with outlines for same which the head writer and second writer(s) agree should be submitted for the award. Each of the three scripts is judged as a part of a coherent whole; the award is given accordingly.” Last year, General Hospital won the 2019 Writers Guild award, having gone up against other daytime writers.

Soaps.com wishes all of the daytime writers the best of luck. We’ll be back with an announcement to report the winners after they are released in February.
