One Life to Live’s Stephen Markle Dead at 73
One Life to Live actor will be remembered…
Though news of his death wasn’t released to the soap opera world last year, Soaps.com was saddened to learn that Stephen Markle passed away on November 6, 2018 in his North Hollywood home in California. His wife, Deborah Dietrich, revealed that the actor died from complications related to Parkinson’s disease.
Stephen Markle was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and graduated from Canada’s National Theatre School. In 1995, he married Leslie Monthan and the couple later divorced in 2000. On October 4, 2003, Markle 
married Dietrich, who posted a note on April 14 on Legacy announcing an upcoming memorial for the beloved actor. “Stephen died on 11/6/2018 at home in North Hollywood after complications related to Parkinson’s. Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, 6/9/2019, at 1:30p at First Christian Church of N. Hollywood (FCCNH.org), reception onsite. Please contact me (Deborah, wife since 2003). Markle began his daytime career in 1982 playing Lt. Ted Loomis on The Edge of Night before landing the memorable role of Mel Hayes on One Life to Live in 1999. For eleven years soap opera fans watched storylines surrounding Mel and the love of his life Dorian Lord (Robin Strasser). He also appeared in film and primetime roles such as House, The O.C., JAG, Without a Trace, Wiseguy, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
