Soap alums take to the stage, the big screen and the military.

Former soap opera actors have stretched their skills from the big screen and beyond. Soaps.com has compiled the latest places to find some of your favorite alums from Another World, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, The Doctors and The Young and the Restless.

U.S. Army recruit

General Hospital alum Carly Schroeder (ex-Serena Baldwin) made her mark on the soap and entertainment world as a child actress opposite the likes of Kin Shriner (Scott Baldwin), Hilary Duff (Lizzie McGuire) and Harrison Ford (Firewall, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark). Now she will make her mark on the world as a soldier in the U.S. Army. Schroeder announced on Instagram that she is “taking a break from Hollywood” in order to work “on a more tangible micro level” to tackle global injustices such as human trafficking. “Serving my country will give my voice more validity. I can better serve and advocate for veterans once I am a part of their community. The military is a family and family always has each others back,” she wrote, adding that that includes her blood family. “My brother is a Marine and my Papa was a Green Beret… There is no way I am going to let the boys have all the fun.”

Twentieth Century

Alec Baldwin (ex-Billy Allison Aldrich, The Doctors) and Anne Heche (ex-Vicky Hudson/Marley Love, Another World) built Hollywood careers on their daytime bonafides. Now they are teaming up again for a Broadway play titled Twentieth Century—which the two starred in back in 2004—for a one-night-only benefit reading organized by Roundabout Theatre Company at Studio 54 on April 29 at 7:30 PM.

Grey’s Anatomy

Daytime fans viewing primetime soap Grey’s Anatomy’s milestone 332nd episode last Thursday might have recognized the actor playing Dr. Andrew DeLuca’s (Giacomo Gianniotti) disgraced doctor dad. That’s because it was Lorenzo Caccialanza (ex-Nico, Days of our Lives), who will be on hand for a multi-episode arc as Dr. Vincenzo DeLuca. Caccialanza will be able to use his native Italian in the role, as well. He last graced our screens in guest spots on Die Hard, Knots Landing, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Alias. Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursday nights at 8:00 PM EST.

Becoming a Hero

Max Shippee (ex-Graham Bloodworth, The Young and the Restless) will be co-starring in Becoming A Hero, a primarily women-produced and directed film about an agoraphobic children’s book author and a boy with cancer who tackle fears and life together. The production is crowdfunded via Indiegogo and a percentage of donations will be sent to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

For 22 years, I’ve played dress up for a living. As an actress I’ve been kidnapped, gone blind, nearly eaten by lions and murdered on more than one occasion. I tormented Lizzie McGuire’s little brother on the Disney channel, was a dolphin trainer, the first female soccer player on an all boys team and Harrison Ford once rescued me during an intense home invasion. . That’s exciting and all, but in January I decided to raise my right hand and swear into the United States Army. With a college degree from @callutheran in Criminal Justice, an ASVAB score of 92, and qualifying PFTs… I was accepted into Army #OCS (Officer Candidate School). . There are three BIG reasons (among many others) why I am taking a break from Hollywood to #goarmy . 1. College opened my eyes to global injustices. But on a more tangible micro level, there is human trafficking occurring within the United States. I’ve written papers, spread awareness and as an Army Officer I intend to learn skills I can later apply when I’m on a team helping these victims. . 2. Serving my country will give my voice more validity. I can better serve and advocate for veterans once I am a part of their community. The military is a family and family always has each others back. . 3. My brother is a Marine and my Papa was a Green Beret… There is no way I am going to let the boys have all the fun. #hooah #actresstoarmy #startedondisneynowimhere 💁🏼‍♀️ . Thank you to my big brothers who teach, encourage and support me. I’ll make you proud. ♥️ @hunter_schroede0372 @claskytac @greenlinetactical @longhighwayhome @garand_thumb @tyler_hughes_ss
