Daytime takes a stand against bullying and harassment.
Thursday October 18 marked Spirit Day where many around the globe wore purple to show their support on the annual LGBTQ awareness day, which is observed during the third Thursday in October. It was started in 2010 by a teenager named Brittany McMillan, who wanted to take a stand against bullying while remembering those who lost their lives as a result of suicide. The day is a way for people to speak out against LGBTQ bullying in order to support LGBTQ youth who are faced with bullying and harassment because of their identities. Spirit Day has become the most visible anti-bullying campaign worldwide, and Soaps.com noticed that a few soap operas and their stars pledged to go purple, by incorporating the color into their outfits and logos, while joining others to show solidarity for LGBTQ youth.
Bold and the Beautiful
Bold and the Beautiful shared a photo on its social media accounts of Heather Tom (Katie Logan Forrester) wearing a gorgeous purple gown and stated, “Today we’re celebrating #SpiritDay and wearing purple to show our support! With so many great #BoldandBeautiful fashions, we have plenty of purple outfits to choose from like this gorgeous gown worn by @bbheathertom. Join our celebration by leaving a ? below!”
Days of our Lives
Days of our Lives posted a photo of Rafe (Galen Gering) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) asking, “Which is the good cop and which is the bad?” Though the post had nothing to do with the day in question, since Hope was wearing a purple blazer, we’ll deem her the good cop in light of Spirit Day!
General Hospital purpled out its show logo on their social media platforms and urged fans, “Join #GH, go purple, and take a stand against bullying! LGBTQ youth need your support,” as Eden McCoy (Josslyn Jacks) posted a photo wearing a purple shirt labeled ‘Be forgiving, choose kindness’ and chimed in, “Join us @abcnetwork @glaad this October #choosekindness #spiritday.”
Young and the Restless
Young and the Restless marked the day with a photo of Genoa City couple Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) and announced, “It’s #SpiritDay, and we’re going purple at #YR to celebrate! @camryngrimes and @caitfairbanks are taking over our Instagram story to spread the love on set.” Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott) looked to the sky in her shades and purple shirt, flexed a muscle to signify strength and shared, “Join me today in going PURPLE for #SpiritDay to support LGBTQ youth gladd.org/spiritday,” while Beth Maitland (Traci Abbott) cast a purple hue over her photo captioned, “No more bullying! Be free to be the magnificent YOU you are!! Let’s go PURPLE #spiritday 10/18 to love each other and support LGBTQ youth. #GLAAD.”
