A Christmas mystery.

On Sunday November 22 it will finally be time to watch the newest installment in “Days of our Lives’” Alison Sweeney’s “Murder She Baked” franchise, based on the Hannah Swensen Mystery Series by New York Times bestselling author Joanne Fluke.

In Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ latest “Murder She Baked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” Sweeney is reunited with Cameron Mathison (“All My Children’s” Ryan Lavery) and Barbara Niven (“One Life to Live’s” Liz Coleman Reynolds). The film also reunites Sweeney with her former “Days of our Lives” co-star Farah Fath (Mimi Lockheart), who plays the victim’s fiancée and a prime suspect in the murder mystery.

Soaps.com spoke with Mathison and Fath about their roles in the new film, their possible return to soap operas, and how they plan on spending the holidays this season.

Soaps.com: This is your second time out as detective Mike Kingston. What is it about the role that appeals to you?

Mathison: I absolutely love this role and series of movies. So many things about it – the story, this character, working with Ali and the entire cast, and of course Hallmark. They are such an incredible company to work for. As far as the character, he is a bit edgier than I often get to play so it’s fun for me. Norman definitely is the nice guy in the triangle. After I finish shooting one of them I’m basically just waiting for the next one to start. Can’t wait.

Soaps.com: How did you first come to be involved in the series with Alison [Sweeney]?

Mathison: Honestly the call came in with an offer and I jumped at it. It was a no brainier for me as long as the scheduling was going to work, which it has so far!

Soaps.com: Can we expect more romance between you two in this second installment? The first movie (Murder She Baked: A Chocolate Chip Murder Mystery) ended with Hannah debating between two guys.

Mathison: Well, it’s Christmastime and who doesn’t love Christmas with Hallmark? There is another murder in town and my character Mike Kingston is on the case. Ali’s character Hannah continues to try and get in there and solve it for him which makes for an interesting obstacle in their relationship. With that said of course Norman is also in the picture for Hannah, which clearly is another obstacle for Mike. But at the end of this movie one of us is making some progress with a kiss.

Soaps.com: I read that filming begun for the third movie. What can we expect from the third installment?

Mathison: For the third installment the main murder suspect will surprise a lot of people! Also in this installment the viewers really get to know the characters on a deeper level which I loved. We get some important background on Mike that explains a lot.

Soaps.com: Are there plans yet for even more “Murder, She Baked” movies after that?

Mathison: Lots of plans! Let’s hope they all come together.

Soaps.com: “All My Children’s” Ryan Lavery was such a popular character. Would you ever return to soap operas? What would your dream role be?

Mathison: I probably would take a role with a short story arc depending on the character. I don’t think I would sign on for anything more than that. I loved being on “AMC” for all those years but it’s been a while now, and I’m really, really enjoying this phase of my career. My dream role… hmmmm. Maybe a quirky character with lots of comedy. That would be fun and refreshing.

Soaps.com: How will you be spending the holidays this year?

Mathison: Christmas in Vail with my entire family. Skiing, skating, sledding and everything wintery.

Farah Fath:

Soaps.com: Hallmark Christmas movies have a special following. Are you a fan?

Fath: Oh gosh. Thanks for this. I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen one. But I’m a fan now!

Soaps.com: Tell us about your role in the film?

Fath: Courtney owns a Christmas tree lot where she and her fiancé, Larry do cookie business with Hannah Swenson. Hannah thinks this couple is kind of odd, especially after a murder occurs on their lot.

Soaps.com: What was it like working with Alison [Sweeney] again?

Fath: Awesome and fun. I always learn something from her.

Soaps.com: Any hope for a return to “Days of our Lives” soon? Would you ever, and what storyline would you love to see Mimi return to?

Fath: As much as I loved everything about working on that show, I really believe my “Days” are over. If they recast her, she should come back to find and meet her son that she accidentally had in a Petri dish with Philip. Duh.

Soaps.com: Congrats on your recent wedding. How will you be spending your first Christmas as a married couple?

Fath: Thank you! We will be heading back to our Vegas house and be hosting for the first time in my adult life! I’ve never bought a Christmas tree or anything, so I have a lot to do! Very excited.

“Murder She Baked: A Peach Cobbler Mystery” will premiere on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries in 2016. Soaps.com will keep you updated with more details as they become available.
