Catching up with the former daytime actors.
Missing some of the former soap stars of daytime canceled soaps? In our latest column, Soaps.com has updates surrounding the careers of those who had roles on “All My Children,” “As the World Turns,” “Guiding Light” “One Life to Live,” “Passions” and “Ryan’s Hope.”
Two weddings, a memoir, one with Beyoncé in attendance, a magazine spread, and primetime gigs and more…
Richard Lawson becomes Beyoncé’s stepfather?
You read right, soap fans! “All My Children” alum Richard Lawson (ex-Lucas Barnes, 1992 to 1993) married Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles on Sunday April 12 on a yacht in Newport Beach, California. TMZ reported that Tina’s daughters Solange and Beyoncé, Jay Z and Blue Ivy were all in attendance wearing white. Fun fact: Lawson is the father of actress Bianca Lawson, who’s appeared on popular series including “Pretty Little Liars” (ex-Maya St. Germain), “The Vampire Diaries” (ex-Emily Bennett) and “Teen Wolf” (ex-Marin Morell) to name a few. Soaps.com sends the Lawson and Knowles families our congrats!
Tamara Tunie in Bad Vegan and Zoo.
“As the World Turns” alum Tamara Tunie (ex-Jessica Griffin, 1987 to 2009) will be appearing in the upcoming film “Bad Vegan” as Josephine Bodder. The story surrounds a stand-up comic named Lily who falls for a physicist named Spike, which leads to them teaming up to work on a teleportation machine. Stay tuned for its 2015 release. Also look for Tunie in the upcoming series “Zoo” as Brenda Montgomery. Set to premiere on June 30, the CBS series is based on the novel by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge, stars Billy Burke (“Twilight” saga) and follows a young scientist who goes in search of the cause of sudden, brutal animal attacks. In case you missed it, watch Tunie’s March 30 appearance on “The View” where she talked about her “Law & Order: SVU” role, Dr. Melinda Warner, which she’s played since 2000.
Beth Chamberlin guest-stars on Nurse Jackie.
Showtime has kicked off its seventh and final season of its dark, medical, comedy series “Nurse Jackie.” Those who are tuning in will see “Guiding Light” alum Beth Chamberlin (ex-Beth Raines, 1989 to 2009) in a guest-starring role next month. On Sunday May 3 at 9:00 PM the actress will appear as Linda in the episode titled “Nice Ladies,” where Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) displays trust issues toward Jackie (Edie Falco) and someone makes a huge life decision. Chamberlin also played Nancy Trent on “Days of our Lives” in 1993 and currently enjoys her work as a fitness instructor.
Jesse Metcalfe goes independent with Destined.
Fans were used to seeing Jesse Metcalfe on a weekly basis as Christopher Ewing until the “Dallas” reboot was canceled and last aired in 2014. Since then, the actor has turned up in a few projects and will play Officer Dylan Holder in the independent film “Destined.” Directed and written by Qasim Basir, the plot follows the double life of Rasheed Smith (Cory Hardrict, “American Sniper”), who is not only an ambitious architect but runs a drug empire as well and faces the daily challenges of taking on both roles. Fans will also remember Metcalfe from his daytime role as Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald on “Passions” from 1999 to 2004.
Kate Mulgrew's Born With Teeth: A Memoir.
Kate Mulgrew broke into daytime in 1975 on "Ryan's Hope" as Mary Ryan, a role she played until 1989. On April 14, through Little, Brown and Company, the actress released her story, Born With Teeth: A Memoir. The book takes a look back on her journey to becoming an actress, leaving home at eighteen to follow her dream, giving up her baby girl for adoption and struggling with the empty space she left behind, as well as the loss of her sisters and the devastation of having been raped. Fans can purchase the memoir at bookstores, on Amazon and through various online venues. Kate Mulgrew currently plays Galina 'Red' Reznikov in Netflix's "Orange is the new Black," which returns with season three on Friday June 12. Watch the video interview below with CBS' Sunday Morning host Anthony Mason, where she talks about her quick rise to stardom, how her pregnancy was written into a storyline, her reconnection with the daughter she gave up and more. "Six million people watched me have this baby... And I had the baby and then I gave the baby up and went back to work two days later... I instantly regretted giving her up."
Nick Choksi ties the knot.
Back in April 2013, we announced the engagement of former "One Life to Live" alum Nick Choksi to Stephanie Thompson. We are happy to update that on March 29 the couple tied the knot and became Mr. and Mrs. Choksi. The actor played Llanview's funny, yet serious Vimal Patel from 2010 to 2013 and has had roles on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "The Sopranos." Soaps.com sends the couple our very best! Speaking of Nics…
