Soaps.com’s Comings And Goings
There were some exciting returns in Port Charles in August. Thaao Penghlis was back as Victor Cassadine, Kimberly McCulloch reprised her role of Robin Scorpio Drake, Teresa Castillo returned from maternity leave as Sabrina, Blake Gibbons was seen again as Coleman, and Jeffrey Vincent Parise popped up as Carlos. The show put out a casting call for an actress between the ages of 30 and 45 to play the short-term role of a female doctor. The actress should be able to do her own stunts. Former "Days of our Lives" actress, Alison Sweeney directed "GH's" August 15 episode, and word came that twins Jaxon and Jakob Kring had been let go as young Danny. The role is being recast. Viewers learned that Robin Mattson will be back as Heather, and executive producer, Frank Valentini, also teased about more upcoming returns in a recent interview. The Young and the Restless:
There was plenty of casting news associated with Genoa City in August. In short appearances, Robert Gant returned as David Sherman, "The Bold and the Beautiful's" Jennifer Gareis reprised her role of Grace Turner, D.C. Douglas popped in as Kurtz, Deion Sander's mother, Connie Knight, appeared as a nurse, Karina Logue portrayed Helen Copeland, Toni Youngblood played Phyllis' nurse, Nathan Anderson appeared as Brian Lynch, Judith Chapman turned up on several episodes as Gloria, and Tricia Cast and Michael Fairman reprised their roles of Nina and Murphy for Katherine's remembrance party. Fans saw Gina Tognoni debut as the new Phyllis Newman on August 11. It was revealed that Jessica Collins' sister will appear as an extra on September 8, Meredith Baxter will play Nikki's new drinking buddy, Maureen, beginning September 8, Shemar Moore will drop in as Malcolm on September 10 and 11, and Max Ehrich will come back as Fenmore on October 1, which is the same day that Scott Elrod first appears as Avery's ex-husband, Joe Clark. In big recasting news, Michael Muhney tweeted that he would not return to "Y&R," and his recast was announced as an actor who formerly appeared on "Passions," and who has most recently had roles on "Revenge," and "Mistresses." Daytime was bursting with casting news in August. Exciting returns and cameos featured heavily and there was announcements of some familiar soap names and well-known actors being cast on several shows.
The Bold and the Beautiful:
There were some fun appearances on “B&B” in August. Lesli Kay returned as feisty Felicia Forrester, ex-“Y&R’s” Kelly Kruger did a cameo as a publicist named Eva, and Bob Barker dropped in for another guest stint and re-enacted his scene from “Happy Gilmore.” Also this month, Carlos Acuna played Lt. Barragan on two episodes, and Sandro Coppola appeared as a host. As August ended, fans learned that Linsey Godfrey had returned from maternity leave and was back taping scenes as Caroline, “Big Brother’s” evicted houseguest, Donny Thompson, had been invited to do a guest appearance down the road, and also that a famous funnyman would be doing a four-episode arc on the show. Days of our Lives:
“Days” is looking to cast the role of the stunning yet fragile Meredith with an experienced actress in the 35 – 38 year old age range, and is also seeking to bring a character named Clint to Salem. He’s a gorgeous and rugged 32 – 40 year old male. James Pacitti played Kristen’s lawyer the week of August 18, Alison Sweeney was in the studio directing on August 28, and Susan Seaforth Hayes returned as Julie on August 29. Joseph Mascolo is back as Stefano on September 4, which is also when David DeSantos appears as Carlo. Billy Flynn takes over the role of Chad beginning September 12. The buzz is that Molly Burnett will be reprising her role of Melanie, and Wally Kurth will return as Justin in about 6 months. Fans also learned in August that another former “One Life to Live” actress had been cast and will be playing the role of Serena, a woman with ties to Salem.
