Oprah racism controversy.
Following a racist encounter in a Swiss shop, Oprah (“The Butler,” “The Oprah Winfrey Show”) spoke out about the incident, in which a salesperson refused to show her a handbag she deemed ‘too expensive’. The story blew-up, with Swiss tourism officials coming forward to apologize to Oprah. That led to Oprah also issuing an apology, making it clear that she viewed the incident as the fault of that one person, not the shop (which she didn’t name), or the country of Switzerland.

Gia Allemand dead at 29.
Reality TV personality, Gia Allemand (The Bachelor, “Bachelor Pad”) died Wednesday August 14 in a New Orleans hospital after being admitted the night of Monday August 12 following a ‘serious emergency medical event’. She was in critical condition on life support, with her mother and boyfriend, the NBA’s Ryan Anderson, by her side. Following her death on Wednesday, it was revealed that she had died as a result of an apparent suicide, and that it was Anderson who found Allemand in her New Orleans home. A family statement to People explained, “Due to a critical loss of brain and organ function, life support was withdrawn.”

Vince Vaughan’s new son.
Vince Vaughn (“Wedding Crashers”) and his wife, Kyla Weber, welcomed a baby boy into the world on Wednesday August 7, according to US Weekly. The newborn, Vernon Lindsay Vaughn, joins big sister, Locklyn Kyla, who is already two years old.

Usher wins custody hearing.
Following Usher’s son’s pool accident early last week, Usher’s ex-wife, Tameka Foster Raymond, forced an emergency custody hearing. The judge ruled that primary custody would remain with Usher. Foster Raymond spoke out after the ruling in an interview with “Good Morning America,” saying that while she didn’t blame Usher for the incident, she was angry that it happened under his watch. Usher Raymond V has been released from the hospital and according to a People source, will be ‘just fine’. Another court hearing is set for later this month as Foster Raymond continues her efforts to get more time with her children.

Amanda Bynes’ mother granted conservatorship.
Lynn Bynes, mother of troubled actress, Amanda Bynes, was granted a temporary conservatorship over her daughter’s affairs on Friday August 9. The order will extend until September 30, at which time there will be another hearing. The involuntary psychiatric hold on Amanda Bynes was also extended to thirty days. Various sources report that she is being treated and making progress.

Ashley Tisdale engaged.
Actress, Ashley Tisdale (“High School Musical,” “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”), became engaged to rocker beau, Christopher French, at the top of the Empire State Building in New York on Thursday August 8. Tisdale took to Twitter to express thanks for the outpouring of well-wishes:

Paula Deen racial discrimination thrown out.
Claims of racial discrimination which led to Paula Deen being dumped by numerous companies, have been thrown out by a judge in Georgia. The claims, filed by Lisa Jackson, who was formerly employed at a restaurant Deen co-owned with her brother, Bubba Hiers, led to Deen’s admission that she had used racial slurs in the past, and resulted in high-profile business partners cutting ties with the famous chef. Sexual harassment charges that were also filed are still on the table.
