We’re sorry to have to report some sad news starts this week to Canadian viewers. Global TV has decided that it will not be pursuing rights to air the show in Canada. Passions will end its run in the great white north on September the 7th. Since the show officially announced its move to DirecTV last week, many Canadian viewers have become concerned that they will no longer be able to see it. DirecTV is not available in Canada and cannot broadcast outside of the United States. The only hope now is that the show will become available via the internet, but this hasn’t gone well for Canadians so far either. iTunes downloads of the show have not been available in Canada and web based viewing on the NBC site has also been unavailable to people outside of the United States. Both iTunes and streaming video may become a thing of the past in the U.S. this fall as well, but no definitive decision has been made so far.

On a more optimistic note, Passions will not be moving to DirecTV until September and four months is a very long time in the entertainment industry. The show originally debuted in Canada on CTV before they gave it up and Global picked it up in its second year. This could be another opportunity for a new station to pick up the show. With the substantial, and loyal, Canadian fanbase for the show, NBC and DirecTV would certainly benefit from holding onto this market. Soaps.com keep you informed of any developments as they arise.
