Past History
Ivy Winthrop was raised in a family of wealth and prestige (her father was the Governor). She has been in love with Sam Bennett since they first met back in high school. They briefly had a romantic fling. Ivy ended up marrying Julian Crane when Sam went away on his father's fishing boat and she didn�t hear from him for a long time. She sent Sam a letter before the wedding telling him that she was going to marry Julian if he did not respond. She overheard Julian and his father Alistair talking about the marriage arrangement (the Crane family needed respectability and the Winthrop family needed money). Julian went along with the wedding even though he was in love with someone else. Ivy went to Sam and they made love for the first and only time. She later returned to Julian after being pressured by her father (former Governor of Maine). Ivy shortly after realized that she was pregnant and assumed the baby was Sam�s. She has placed everything in her life on the back burner for Ethan (including her other three children that she had with Julian).
In July of 1999 Ivy and Sam met up again and she has been pursuing him since. She has blackmailed Eve into helping her get Sam and covering up Ethan�s conception date. At Ethan�s engagement party the truth finally came out about her adultery. Julian and Ethan were both furious and banished her from their lives. Julian finally got the divorce that he wanted and Ethan slowly started to make up with his mother. Ivy was then crippled during a lightning storm. Theresa attacked her with a fire poker when the storm didn't take care of her. Ivy fought for her life in the hospital and managed to pull through hoping to get the chance to tell Ethan that Theresa (his soon to be bride) was married...to Julian!
When that information wasn't enough to keep Ethan away from Theresa, Ivy searched high and low for any ammunition she could use against Theresa. When Ivy finally got legitimate proof about Theresa�s pregnancy (by Julian), Ethan finally sided with his mother. He ended things with Theresa and moved out. Shortly after, Ivy and Theresa went to war over the Crane fortune. Theresa kicked Ivy out of the mansion during a blizzard and as fate would have it - she was rescued by Sam. This luck and the fact that David (the man she hired to pretend to be Grace�s husband) was falling in love with Grace, was way too much for her to handle.
When Sam took her into his home, she was bound and determined to become a better person for him. She tried her best to get as close to him and his children as she could. Sam and Ivy later became engaged. Ivy kept quiet about the fact that Grace and David were never married so that Sam and Grace would not stay together. Ivy later set her sights on ending the relationship between Kay and Fox. Kay saw Ivy's real intentions and warned her that if she didn't stop, she was going to tell Sam the truth about what she did to come between him and Grace!
