Tika Sumpter: Not Leaving!
It has come to my attention that other sites on the Internet are reporting that
One Life to Live actress Tika Sumpter is leaving Llanview and her role as Layla Williamson. However, since Soaps.com does not report gossip or rumors, we went to the actress herself for confirmation and Tika stated that she is not leaving the show, which is great news since she’s one of daytime’s hottest up and coming stars!
While working at the infamous New York City nightspot, Life, Tika was encouraged to pursue acting as a way to earn extra income. Tika’s boss, Steven Lewis, founder of Life, arranged an interview for Tika with a modeling agency, but she wasn’t tall enough for that specific boutique. However, the meeting put Tika in touch with scouts at another agency, Booked, with whom she ended up freelancing for.
Having booked national commercials for international brands with household names, including Cascade, Liz Claiborne's Curve fragrances, Hewlett Packard, Lowes Home Improvement, Tika also had roles in several public service announcements, including, Truth, an anti-cigarette/smoking campaign that aired nationwide, and an AIDS awareness campaign.
Because of Tika's talented, husky voice, national clients request her voice to market their products and services. During the summer of 2004, Tika spent time taping in Los Angeles as the co-host of Best Friends Date, an original show for the MTV-owned N network.
It wasn't until 2005, when she landed her very first big role playing Layla Williamson on One Life to Live, to which she’ll be continuing with!
