Raised in Palm Beach, Florida, Hillary returned to her hometown in Massachusetts to enroll in boarding school. She went on to attended Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, heading up the drama club, before transferring to Sarah Lawrence College to study genetics and theater. However, Hillary's attention quickly turned from being interested in gene screening to screen-testing.

During her senior year in college, Hillary performed in numerous off-Broadway productions such as, Song Night in the City, World of Black and White and Lips Together, Teeth Apart, as well as Broadway shows A Real American Hero and The Heidi Chronicles.

Hillary is no stranger to motion pictures, appearing in Purple Hearts, Love Potion #9, It Had to Be You and Life Breath. She also had a role in the feature film Maid in Manhattan, starring Jennifer Lopez and recently completed filming a role in Todd Solondz's next film Palindromes.

Fans may remember Hillary from her primetime television series, Something Wilder, starring opposite Gene Wilder and a co-starring role on the series No Soap Radio. Her most familiar past role to fans has to be playing Margo Hughes for six-and-a-half years on As the World Turns.

In 2003, One Life to Live co-star Catherine Hickland and Hillary debuted their live comedy show A Couple of Soap Chicks at The Brokerage in Bellmore, NY.

Hillary is an avid tennis and golf player who loves word and card games. She's married to Phillip 'Nip' Smith. The couple have two children, Courtney and Phips.
