Why is Days losing so many viewers?

Agree! B&B is terrible. The Hope show ugh

maybe recycling the same plots. Days and Y&R airs in the same timeslot in some markets and maybe some viewers are leaving Days to watch Y&R

I’m sorry to hear that. I’m still enjoying Days quite a bit and still watch every day. As opposed to GH, which I tried to watch a recent episode just last night and ended up turning it off because it was so boring.

In my case, it’s the Princess Steffy, show! uuuggggg

The low budget production values don’t help but overall its just bad across the board writing wise.

There are no lasting consequences to anything they do write.

I understand your perspective. I reiterate that the writers are not penning s/ls to integrate earlier and newer viewers. No character should be thrown under the bus for another.

maybe it has to do with a certain serial killer being turned into a hero is whTs driving viewers away.

I enjoy a lot of Days, too. The ratings have gone up and down and have had the demo group soaps want so much, so it is cyclical. IA with those posters who can’t believe B&B isn’t on the bottom. Talk about repetitious! Every day for years we heard the same dialogue and saw the same flashbacks, and now we have to listen to Hope mourn every single day for weeks. At least Days keeps a brisker pace and has humor mixed in. (I’ve never watched GH or Y&R) When were these ratings? If they were after the start of the immigration s/l or Jack’s robotic return, I can understand the dip.

Robo Jack is difficult to watch. Can’t say I’m not tempted to turn the tv off while hes on. I love the actor but this story is trash. Who is the story supposed to appeal to? Its awful for longtime viewers & can’t possibly make new viewers root for them, if I were a new viewer I would be rooting for Jennifer to get back with Eric or get with that doctor who apparently waits for her. I find it amazing that Ron considered this a good idea and thought it could be entertaining for at least 1/4 of the year. Potentially more. Its painful to watch. His return could’ve brought in ratings if done well.

But theres consequences to bringing back people from the dead every other episode. Now theres no real threat of danger they can use. So what if a Mexican cartel is after Chloe. If she dies, she could be back in a month. So what if Will has a brain tumor. If he dies, maybe we get him back during a Sweeps week.

Plus like I mentioned earlier, the rotating door of cast members. When you flood the show with old characters for Sweeps weeks and then they flood back out as soon as Sweeps are over… If you’re a viewer who really loves all the characters they brought in and they suddenly all disappear, you’re likely to disappear with them. Its also signal to the viewer that what we’re watching now isn’t important - You brought in a whole new cast during the important months to watch.

Love stories ending poorly. When you watch a couple for 30 years and ones killed off with a brain tumor and you have to watch the other painfully move on, that’s not a great ending. Not romantic or adventurous. Let them end together for the sake of the story. We know Steve wouldn’t just stay gone from Kayla by choice. Its dumb & depressing. When one leaves the other should go too. Love stories have a beginning, middle, and end. Its ok for them to end. Then maybe they can return again later but lets have story continuity.

I still watch DVR when I get home (and after reading the recaps for the day) and I will admit I sure hit the FF button a lot…(on both my soaps) but I still watch

Folks I don’t by most of your excuses of Fans don’t like Hope, Chad, Abby, etc. Fans want to see the classic characters they love in fantastic storylines. Honestly when most of the stories are like nails on the chalkboard with characters that are hard to stomach yeah people tune out. Like how much can you stomach unlikable people like Claire, Ted, Diana, Leo, Eve, NuJack, etc. The characters we love are even being destroyed - Chad and Hope are loved characters that are just given nails on the chalkboard stories. The answer is simple. IT IS THE WRITERS! To say people are tuning out because John/Marlena is absolutely ridiculous. I could not disagree more.If John and Marlena were not on the show anymore I would probably tune off the show. Jack and Jennifer used to be right up there with Bo and Hope. I LOVED THEM. But the dumb writers destroyed them. The reason days is losing viewers is simple - ineptness. I feel sorry for the actors that remain on this show.

I don’t think Chad was loved by the viewers. It was more of the viewers holding onto CHABBY. And if things went wrong, the fans would be upset and still watch if they still are with each other. Nothing wrong with it, but we have other characters too to watch. The problem is the stories. They need to be spicer. I agree with one that Jack coming back, should have had, great ratings. I think there is a percentage with all characters. I feel if Days cut out Rafe or Brady, it’s going to be a major plummet with the ratings. It already was when Days cut out Daniel. Days needs to get it together or try even more harder.

Probably cuz it’s boring. The whole mayoral thing, keeping the Hernandez family (higley creation) instead of veteran characters like Chloe Belle and Shawn, the immigration storyline, Sarah/Rex/Eric recycled triangle, cheap ugly sets. Just not compelling enough material. Seems as though the head writer has his own agenda and not really paying attention to the history of the show and what made it work, given he was not a days fan like he was gh/oltl. Y&r on the other hand has hired two veterans producers to fix the show, who know the history of the show, and it’s slowly getting better and I’ve found myself tuning in more.

For sure without Jarlena I would be out. I have quit in the past when they exited together (I think John went to a hospital in another country to learn how to walk again or something, right after finishing the robo Jon story. I quit right up until the reboot where they returned along with Jack, Carrie, & others. Jarlena are supporting roles now anyway, they aren’t on much at all aside from random bigger stories they get. To say these side characters (who are loved by the bulk of the audience - although not on this board) are the problem is shortsighted and not well informed.

I rather see them bond with Claire their lone biological grandchild than them dealing with another psycho ex of John’s

Absolutely. That’s more to do with the writing. They need to work on writing for more mature couples. Family, friends, travel, careers, etc; are fine sources of stories for them. No need for love traingles and other silly drama for the middle aged and older crowd. Let them be together and a source for more down to earth drama. We have the younger characters for near death experiences, kidnappings, and sexual escapades.

IA that it’s the writers. They insult us by re-writing history and then by writing who could care less S/L’s. I think they’re lazy and they’re certainly not creative and they are not vested in Days like the long time viewers. It’s like ho hum, what do we throw out there today, and go get a cup of coffee.

Until TPTB hire worthy writers that WANTS Days to succeed, we’re stuck with this crap. It’s like they’re watching the Hour Glass as the sand drifts down til Days is no more. Sad. Now I’m depressed. LOL!

This ridiculous redemption of a serial killer sl is DEFINITELY keeping me from returning (recreating Hope to suit her partners after Bo first running me out of the viewing audience). Would’ve LOVED to have rejoined but will NEVER watch & support Bope’s precious daughter romancing some serial killer as if it’s some beautiful love story! It’s a totally perverted & off the charts mess and makes Ciara seem so shallow & desperate IMO!

Days could be spicer with the cast…the last time the ratings was high this year, was with Leo lusting after Xander! Days needs to revisit in how to make things interested for the viewers.

And as a Chad LOVER, and I can speak for a lot of others that have agreed, we have loved BF since the first day he stepped on set with those sparkling blue eyes!

They wrote SO well back then for Chad, I even liked him when Abby was missing and he was taking care of Thomas on his own, didn’t care for the grandpa sweaters but when Abby/MM came back, it was all down hill for the Chad character and I felt towards the end that it was for BF too. He lost his luster but as soon as KM came back as Abby, he was getting it back. Now if they can write a decent S/L for them, they’ll be great!
