Were you "hooked" on the soap operas "back in the day?" Did any of you watch Ryan's Hope?

Yes, I was a “hooked sudser.” Ryan’s Hope was one of my favorites and a lot of fun to watch. There were a lot of memorable characters. I can remember Delia, her Mom, and Snapper. What were Snapper’s sister’s names? There were two of them, right? Wasn’t the actress that played Delia also on One Life To Live for several years? Those were the days when you had the option to flip from channel to channel all morning and all afternoon; and you had your favorite soaps to choose to watch. Lots of fun . . . right? Did any of you schedule your college classes to coincide with the time you had free to watch your favorite soap? Did you skip class sometimes? Remember when we had the miniature, portable TVs that we pulled out of our bag to watch our favorite soap on our lunch hour at work? And remember the times we were at the mall and we stopped shopping to visit a store selling TVs in order to get a glimpse of a soap that was on. We didn’t want to miss that episode that day. Yeah, those of you that were “hooked” on the soaps during those times, send in your comments describing some of the unique things you did to watch/not miss the soaps --back in the day; and you still may be doing the same now. Well thank goodness for the DVR and On Demand in 2022. Although we have these amenities now, I still speed home to watch my favorite soap in real time. What do you do?

I definitely watched Ryan’s Hope, Delia was a mess but I always enjoyed her. The same actress played Roxie on OLTL.
Snapper Foster was on Young&Restles - I believe his brother was Greg and Jill was his sister.

That same actress (Ilene Kristen) then reprised the role of Delia in general hospital. She is Ava’s (Maura West) mother.

I always was a fan…thoroughly joyed that show…set in a bar of all places! Sun an interesting Irish family…loved them all.
Remember racing home to watch it I. Real time! Thank goodness for DVR’s ….change my viewing life!

I watched them all at one time or another once the vcr came into being a fun tool I had 2. I started to cancel (for me) some shows so I could get them all and alternate others. The ones I never canceled or moved was channel 7 (ABC) RH, AMC, OLTL, GH and when I was younger before they got cancelled Dark Shadows & Edge of Night.

After those my faves were Guiding Light and As the World Turns. Another world was an alternate. My least favorites were Y&R because of Victor, DOOL because of Sammy’s obsession with Austin and finally at the bottom were Passions just never got into it and the B&B because of the endless sl of Ridge, Brook & Taylor.

My all time favorite is/was All My Children.

I loved AMC the best too. ABC had the best soaps. Ryan’s Hope was very good but for some reason I didn’t see all of it.

I definitely watched Ryan’s Hope. Loved the show. Finelli was a great character! Remember when he was drunk at his own wedding?

Who remembers Sunset Beach? It was canceled to make room for “The View”

I don’t remember Sunset Beach but I hate shows like the View and I hate shows like that running off the soaps.

I watched Sunset Beach in the VERY beginning for the first 3 weeks or so. I was home from college when it started and then never really went back to it. I loved the opening theme song. I remember watching it after old Knots Landing repeats on TNT.

I remember ALL MY CHILDREN being cancelled for THE CHEW; AS THE WORLD TURNS being cancelled for THE TALK; GUIDING LIGHT being cancelled for LET’S MAKE A DEAL; ONE LIFE TO LIVE being replaced by [some crappy male yakfest–I think it was THE GUYS starring Jerry O’Connell & Rib Hillis if I remember correctly] Sadly, the three soaps–BOLD & BEAUTIFUL, GENERAL HOSPITAL and YOUNG & RESTLESS–are ones I no longer watch, although I watched Y&R in Summer 1982 and I started watching Y&R again once Robert Newman assumed Richard Burgi’s role of Ashland Locke–and then Michael Damian reprised his role as Danny Romalotti & good God, he looked beautiful…I don’t know if MD only did one show [I still have it on my DVR; if there was two or more episodes, I must have missed them] I miss DAYS [in my viewing area, Peacock wants $6.75 per episode and gee, what with the yearly cost I would end up expending, I would be better off hacking off my right arm, putting it on ice & sending it to NBC; I am a lazy-eyed, CP-riddled, right-side hemiplegic so my entire right side is basically a warped useless decoration, I have found solace in GUIDING LIGHT and its actors, DAYS OF OUR LIVES and its actors, etc. Some I have been lucky enough to talk to on the phone in the ICU the night before brain surgery; others I have been lucky enough to meet in person at various events over the years, and I remain ever grateful for the opportunity. xoxo Ali xoxo

The first soap I watched was Another World,Bay City
