GL Casting News: The Return of Wesley Ramsey
Sam and Olivia (CBS)
Following the stream of actors returning to the canvas of Guiding Light over the past several months, Wesley Ramsey is now due back for a visit. He will be returning to the role of Sam Spencer, the younger brother of Olivia. While the show hasn’t yet made any official comment on the return of the character, or a specific date for his on-screen appearance, his agent has publicly stated that the return will be open-ended. What could be bringing him back to Springfield at this point? Chances are its because his sister is at death’s door but there might be more to it than that.
Sam Spencer arrived in Springfield after being thrown out of numerous boarding schools. He was taken under the wing of his older sister, Olivia, who tried to get him to straighten out his life. He met Daisy, by accident, when she was a runaway. After returning her home, he got involved with the Lewis family, who just happened to be connecting to his own when Josh and Olivia married. Sam soon fell in love with Marah and tried to control himself while he witnessed her frequently disastrous love life. After she split up with Tony Santos, he finally got her shot with her but she was soon kidnapped by the mob. Sam and Tony teamed up to rescue her but this only helped to turn her attentions back to Tony. After his relationship with her faltered, he began pursuing a career as a journalist. When he began investigating Carmen and her mob connections, he became infected with a deadly virus that left him comatose. A miracle cure conjured by Mel and Rick brought him back to life and he left to attend journalism school. He returned once and awhile to demure his sister's new relationship with Alan Spaulding and later took care of Emma when Olivia faked her daughter's death to protect her from Phillip.
Louisville, Kentucky native Wesley Ramsey originated the role of Sam in 2000 and stayed on screen for two years, returning intermittently for two years after that. He has not been seen since 2004. Since leaving the cast of Guiding Light, Ramsey has led a busy career. He appeared on CSI: Miami, Bickford Shmeckler's Cool Ideas, Slippery Slope, Bitter Sweet, L.A. Dicks and Frostbite as well as taking a recurring role on Charmed where he portrayed Wyatt Halliwell between 2003 and 2006. More recently he appeared in the horror film, Brotherhood of Blood and has completed roles for the films Dracula's Guest and Dark Honeymoon, both set to be released this year.
