Deconstructing GH: Celebrating the holidays with another affair

Port Charles rants and raves for the week of November 30 – December 4:

The post-Thanksgiving week seemed to crawl as we wait for the next big thing in Port Charles to drop.

Technically not even single, but that hasn’t stopped Dante.
The Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, boy I can’t wait to see what Dante and Valerie plan for Christmas! What tiny ounce of like I had left for Dante flew out the window when he jumped into bed with Valerie before the ink on his separation papers was even dry. Valerie gets no sympathy either given how she once again blamed Lulu for all of this. I can’t wait to see what Maxie and Lulu come up with to make Valerie, and hopefully Dante as well, pay for their affair.

Liz’s dangerous game.
Sam and Carly both gave it to Liz with no holds barred in telling her she never really knew or loved the real Jason. However I have to hand it to Liz for being able to stand up and put Carly in her place. Telling her that she and Sonny had to find a new enforcer for their kinky ménage-a-trois was a great line. With that said, it still feels like every week Liz gets away with murder. Her little “I’m setting you free” speech to Jason was nothing more than a way to cause a wedge between him and Carly, and it will no doubt work. Someone throw some water on this witch.

Scheming 101 at General Hospital.
Is it a requirement to take a course in scheming to be a nurse at GH? Not only is Liz a master at it, but also Sabrina is falling into similar bad ways in hiding the truth about her baby. In last week’s Deconstructing GH I discussed how Carlos’ return from the dead wasn’t so shocking, and neither was the reveal that he’s the baby’s father. I partly can’t blame her for hiding this from Michael, as who would want Carlos as their kid’s father? However hiding the truth about your baby daddy never works out on soaps. Maybe Michael and Kiki can find their way back to one another, or perhaps Michael could give it a go with Hayden or even the once again missing Rosalie. I’d like to see Michael end up happy when all is said and done, but like Valerie I’m having a hard time finding sympathy for Sabrina right now. I was glad to see her stand up to Carlos at least and acknowledge he is not good for her.

I feel pretty!

I feel pretty!

Julian’s face turned Crimson over Nina’s new look.
Maxie was not only there to help Lulu this week, but Nina as well when she needed a boost of confidence. I’m thoroughly enjoying this side of Maxie, though I’m not sure why Nina needed a makeover to begin with, as she’s already beautiful. It seems it was more about boosting her inner confidence. I loved when Nina stood up to Julian, but what was with Julian becoming flustered over her “new look.” Julian has enough drama with Alexis and Olivia as is, so he doesn’t need to add Nina into the mix! I also hope Nina doesn’t regret sinking her fortune into a magazine that Julian is working to sabotage.

Help us Hayden, you are our only hope!
Hayden’s revenge plot, or whatever it is she’s planning against Nikolas, seems to be moving at a snail’s pace. Hopefully things will speed up, as she may be our only hope of exposing both Liz and Nikolas at this point. I know what is on my list to Santa this year.

Is Paul’s business hitting a little too close to home?
Viewers learned that unlike the other mobsters in Port Charles who run drugs, Paul has upped the game and is shipping arms. I am not sure how I feel about this story. While it’s realistic, and it’s something different than the normal mob stories, given the real life events of the past few weeks it may not be the best storyline. Soaps are an escape from everyday life for many, and this story may be a little too real and ill-timed. The later of course isn’t the fault of the writers.

As usual, this is simply an opinion piece. Please leave your own in the comments.
