General Hospital Weekly Blog!
GH Rundown for the week of November 16.
The biggest thing to happen last week was the introduction of James Franco‘s character Franco, so I’ll start there.
The storyline about this mysteriously reclusive artist who is fixated on death and Jason Morgan is quite intriguing. I’m loving it so far and can’t wait to see where it goes. However, I’m loving it because of the already established GH cast and not because critically acclaimed movie star James Franco has joined in. Don’t get me wrong, I was wildly exited while anticipating his appearance, but now that he’s on, the thing that stands out for me the most is what great actors the show already has. I’m sure many non-soap fans expected him to blow the Daytime cast out of the water, but that has not been the case. They have been just as good if not better in their scenes with him so far. My first reaction to seeing him was that I didn’t feel the ease many other actors have coming to Daytime – Dominic Zamprogna’s (Dante) debut comes to mind. Maybe it was the anticipation, the high expectations, or that they are trying really hard to make the character seem eccentric and disturbed, but Franco is a bit more stilted than I expected. The video preview for this coming up week looks really promising though and I’m excited to see the effect Franco will have on Maxie, Jason and whoever else he comes into contact with. What are your thoughts?
Moving on, another thing that really stuck out for me last week was: Are Olivia and Lulu actively trying to get Dante killed? My God, did Lulu really go to Sonny to find out what he would do if a cop was gathering evidence against him? If Sonny didn’t figure out it was Dominic she was talking about, then she was totally putting her brother in jeopardy. If I was Dante, I would have turned my back on her, not tell her how amazing she was. As for Olivia, when Johnny asked her where she got the photo of Claudia’s dead body, she totally threw her son under the bus by admitting Dominic gave it to her because he thinks Johnny could have sent it to Jason. I understand she didn’t have a lot of plausible explanations for it, but didn’t she think that could place her son in danger?
My heart continues to break for Johnny though who is having a hard time accepting his sister's death. Now he knows about Dante and feels betrayed by Olivia for not telling him the person he thought he could trust, could put him in jail. I don't blame him for his anger towards Olivia, as she has really made a mess of things. I think she might want to tell Sonny the truth about Dante after all, as since Sonny probably wouldn't have his own son killed, it would probably save some lives and a lot of heartbreak.
As for another messy situation, I was happy that Luke didn't pass judgment on Elizabeth for her affair with Nikolas and instead empathized and urged her to be honest with his son. Because let's face it, he is certainly in no position to throw stones. I just wish Elizabeth would have taken him up on his advice, because I feel bad for Lucky and can only imagine how devastated he will be to learn just about everyone close to him has betrayed him by keeping the secret. Hopefully Lulu won't be added to that list.
More on the Nik/Liz/Lucky front, I was glad that Nikolas told Rebecca the truth, or at least most of the truth. I don't know how her story will get wrapped up, but I really am looking forward to her not being part of the equation.
On a side note, I love that they've continued the karaoke thread with Mac. How cute was it when he was singing and dancing at the police station and then admitted to Robin he went to karaoke on Friday nights? Love it!
Last week was pretty enjoyable, and as I said above, I'm really liking the Franco story so far, but I would also like to see more of Diane and Max (I always want that), for them to go somewhere with the Kristina/Kiefer abuse storyline and more Kate sightings would be nice.
So those are my thoughts about last week. What did you think? Feel free to agree, disagree or point out something I didn’t touch on below and visit our GH News Room for all the latest news!
