The show focuses on the lives of surgical interns, residents, and attending doctors as they develop into seasoned doctors while balancing personal and professional relationships. It revolves around the title character, Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) who begins as an intern, ascends to the chief resident, and eventually a co-owner of what becomes Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. It’s part medical drama, part sudsy soap opera, with everything daytime fans have come to love. The show is full of steamy affairs, hospital scandals, tragic losses, brain tumors and unexpected pregnancies. You can stream Grey’s Anatomy on ABC’s website, YouTube, fuboTV, Netflix, Vudu and Hulu.

2. The Good Doctor
ABC’ The Good Doctor is based on the 2013 award-winning South Korean series of the same name. The show stars Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel) as Shaun Murphy, a young autistic surgeon with savant syndrome from the mid-size city of Casper, Wyoming. Shaun moves to San Jose, California to work as a resident in the prestigious St. Bonaventure Hospital. His savant abilities include near-photographic recall and the ability to note minute details and changes that his fellow doctors cannot easily pick up on. While his brilliance is admired and recognized by his colleagues, his passion and zealous sometimes gets the best of him and lands him in hot water. Currently wrapping up its third season, you can stream The Good Doctor on ABC’s website, iTunes, YouTube, Google Play, Vudu and Hulu.
Nurses is a Canadian medical drama television series that just aired its first season on Global. The series centers on a group of five young nurses at a busy downtown Toronto hospital who work on the frontlines, dedicating their lives to helping others, while they struggle with their own real-life problems. The ensemble cast includes Tiera Skovbye (Riverdale) as Grace Knight, a young nurse looking for a fresh start until someone from her past returns. Natasha Calis (The Possession) plays Ashley Collins, a wild and unapologetic adrenaline junky who thrives in the environment and fast pace of the hospital. Jordan Johnson-Hinds (Blindspot) is Keon Colby, a former college football star who’s trying to prove he’s more than just an athlete. Sandy Sidhu (Grey’s Anatomy) portrays Nazneen Khan, a smart daughter from a wealthy family in India who moved to Canada to re-invent herself. Rounding out the cast is Donald MacLean Jr. (Workin’ Moms) as Wolf Burke, a soft-hearted and playful young man who has a secret that may find him in over his head. You can watch the first season of Nurses on Global’s website if you are a Canadian resident.
House ran on the Fox network for eight seasons and focused on Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), an unconventional, misanthropic medical genius who, despite his dependence on pain medication, leads a team of diagnosticians at Princeton’s Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey. Throughout the series, House often clashed with his fellow physicians because many of his hypotheses about patients’ illnesses are based on subtle or controversial insights, and routinely disregards hospital rules and procedures. The character was in part inspired by Sherlock Holmes. House was consistently one of the top ten watched shows in the United States for its first several seasons and the most-watched show in the world in 2008. See why House gained such a following by streaming it on NBC’s website, iTunes, YouTube, Amazon Prime or Vudu.
5. The Resident
The Resident is currently on its third season on the Fox Network and focuses on the lives and duties of staff members at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital while delving into the bureaucratic practices of the hospital industry. It’s based on the best-selling book Unaccountable by surgeon Marty Makary, in which he proposes that common sense, physician-led solutions can fix the healthcare system. The Resident stars Matt Czuchry (Gilmore Girls) as Conrad Hawkins, a senior resident internist who ascends to the chief resident. Emily VanCamp (Revenge) plays Nic Nevin, a nurse practitioner. Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther) stars as Mina Okafor, a surgical resident who is highly intelligent and does not care for anyone’s opinion, which cardiothoracic surgeon AJ Austin (Malcolm Jamal-Warner, The Cosby Show) finds intriguing. Finally, Bruce Greenwood (Thirteen Days) stars as Randolph Bell, the Chief of Surgery, and later CEO of the hospital. You can stream The Resident on Fox’s website, YouTube, Sling TV, fuboTV, Vudu and Hulu.
