An intimate look at the town behind General Hospital.
Soaps.com readers and fans of General Hospital may be interested to know about the new book, A Travel Guide to Port Charles. While it’s presented through the eyes of Lucy Coe, it was written by the show’s co-head writer Chris Van Etten, who joined GH in 2017. He is the recipient of a Daytime Emmy award and several Writers Guild Awards for his work on ABC’s soap operas One Life To Live and GH, as well as the author of Red Carpet Riot, A Likely Story and All That Glitters.
Lucy, the town’s former librarian who is the founder of The Nurses’ Ball and more recently has become Port Charles’ hottest real estate agent, takes readers on a tour of Port Charles where you’re as likely to encounter a den of not-so-secret agents as you are a gold-hearted, gun-toting coffee importer, who may or may not be an alleged mobster. Lucy also turns to some of Port Charles other notable residents to give the reader tours of their homes and favorite locations in the fictional upstate New York town where the soap is set. She believes the best way to see any city is in the back of a chauffeured limousine, or better yet, by helicopter. However, Lucy knows some are on a budget, so the book offers a series of walking tours of the town.
In the book you will discover the history of their fair city, where to buy a home or rent an apartment, where and what to eat, where to worship, places to have fun while you’re in town, and suggestions on whom to befriend and whom to avoid. The book is filled with gossip, history, and sordid details. It includes a section which honors the town’s heroes, a suggested scavenger hunt, reviews of the many Port Charles Nurses’ Balls, and quizzes the reader can take to determine where they would fit if they were lucky enough to be a Port Charles resident.
