Actress reflects on iconic legends she’s worked with and who she’d like to in the future. readers currently know Elizabeth Hendrickson for playing Port Charles new DA Margaux Dawson on General Hospital, but she’s also played Chloe Mitchell on The Young and the Restless and Maggie Stone on All My Children. Recently she sat down with Soap Opera Digest to discuss her past roles and her current one on GH. She recalls her very first day working on All My Children with Susan Lucci (Erika Cane). “I remember being utterly petrified! Not only was it my first day with Susan Lucci, but she ran [Frankie – Maggie’s twin] over with a car!” She thinks back to feeling that, “I’m doing all of this wrong! This is all wrong and I’m with the most popular, iconic actress in daytime and I look like an idiot!” However, she goes on to say that, “Susan was lovely and amazing and gracious. I really fell in love with the medium on that day because I really never thought that was something I was interested in doing. I never watched soap operas; it was never my thing.”

After AMC she landed on Y&R where she worked with the likes of Eric Braeden (Victor Newman). She admits she wasn’t a fan of how Chloe exited the show. “It was not only a surprise to me, but I didn’t really love the way that… I didn’t mind leaving, but then when they brought her back to do this kind of pretending that she was dead, ghost, soapy stuff, and then to kind of take Greg [Rikaart, Kevin Fisher] along with me just didn’t feel right.” She is at least thankful her character wasn’t killed, and that she even attended her own character’s funeral. On shooting that scene she thought, “Well, now I’ve done every soap cliche in the book!”

Since joining GH she’s been working closely with Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) and Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos). She admits while working on AMC she would tune into GH in her dressing room and was a Sonny fan. Now that she’s working with Benard she admires him so much more. “When I work with him I don’t feel like – I don’t want to say I don’t feel like I’m acting, [but] everything else kind of like falls away. He really cares about what you bring to the table and he loves a good fight, but he also loves the vulnerability. He just has this really great sensitivity to him that I think shows up in his work.” She teases things between Sonny and Margaux are about to get “really juicy and fun.” Of those she has yet to work with, tops on her list are Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) and Finola Hughes (Anna Devane), the later she worked with on AMC and admits, “She was like my idol back then. I just loved everything about her. I thought she was the coolest chick ever.”
