The backdrop for several dramatic events will set Port Charles ablaze.

Updated May 18: “General Hospital” just posted a new video promo for the 2017 Nurses’ Ball. has learned that preparation for the ball consisted of 48 rehearsal hours. There will be 45 ball gowns featured, 23 dancers and musicians, 12 special sets and 8 musical numbers with songs from David Bowie, George Michael and Billy Joel.

On May 5, reported that “General Hospital” will air this year’s Nurses’ Ball beginning on May 22. This time around it is sponsored by Burt’s Bees. As reported, Mario Lopez will appear at General Hospital’s Nurses’ Ball this year, along with his daughter Gia. Also George Pennacchio returns for his fifth Nurses’ Ball and joins Lopez and Michelle Stafford (Nina Clay-Cassadine) hosting the red carpet arrivals.

The Nurses’ Ball was founded in 1994 by Port Charles resident Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) and is one of fictional Port Charles’ most glamorous charity events dedicated to raising money for HIV/AIDS awareness and research. Stunning red-carpet fashion, breathtaking musical performances and plenty of intrigue and drama define this exciting programming event. Past years’ balls included such drama as Nicholas Cassadine revealing to Liz Webber that Jake was Jason and Bobbie fainting at the ball and being targeted by the GH Serial Killer.

Executive Producer Frank Valentini said of this year’s ball, “This will be ‘GH’s’ 13th Nurses’ Ball, and each year our wonderful viewers have come to expect plenty of music, dance, glamour and of course an abundance of drama. This year will be extra special, as we’ll have several tribute performances honoring the work of contemporary artists who have recently passed away, including David Bowie. There a lot of amazing performances and special appearances in the works. You won’t want to miss it!” Head of Current Series Programming Vicki Dummer stated, “We are thrilled to bring back the Nurses’ Ball this year and delighted to be working with Burt’s Bees as our corporate sponsor. The Nurses’ Ball brings awareness to AIDS research while giving our multi-talented cast a chance to showcase their vocal talents.”
