General Hospital’s Marcus Coloma Out: Will Nikolas Be Recast or… ?!?
After several weeks of whispers and rumors about the fate of General Hospital‘s Marcus Coloma, the folks at Daytime Confidential are now reporting that the actor is out as Nikolas… and it sounds as if his exit wasn’t necessarily a smooth one.
According to the site, the actor “declined to film his final scenes after learning he’d been let go.”
Soap Opera Digest confirms the news. And while there has been no word on whether Nikolas will be recast, the wording of a statement from the folks at General Hospital might offer a clue. According to Digest, the show specifically says, “Marcus Coloma will no longer be playing the part.” Does this mean that perhaps someone else will be stepping in once the actor’s final episode airs sometime in late January?
The actor joined the Port Charles family back on Thursday, October 31, 2019, when Nikolas made his big return on Halloween, dressed in a dark cloak and gold mask. Upon spotting Ava at the Metro Court, he followed her to the gallery, where she demanded that he remove his mask and was stunned to see Nikolas again — and alive. In fact, she had been so shocked that she fainted and found him gone when she came to.
For those who don’t recall, Theo Hart, who was revealed to be Valentin, believed everything Nikolas owned should have been his and forced his nephew to sign it all over to him. From there, he shot Nikolas (then played by Nick Stabile) in the chest and he fell over the balcony at Wyndemere — presumably into the sea — and was declared dead in July 2016.
Since the character’s return under Coloma there has been no shortage of drama surrounding the prince. Most recently, he made the controversial decision to sleep with son Spencer’s girlfriend, Nikolas. Worse, when she became the latest to return from the “dead” (after falling off the parapet at Wyndemere during a struggle with Ava), the temptress revealed herself to be carrying Nik’s baby!
Believing Esme to be the mysterious hook killer, Nikolas kept her locked in the turret (always a nice thing to have on hand) of Wyndemere. Unfortunately, when Liz discovered that he had an unexpected “guest” she, too, got caught up in the drama… even going so far as to claim she was the one carrying Nikolas’ child in order to keep Finn from discovering Esme.
No word on whether the part will be recast or Nikolas might find himself leaving Port Charles (dead or alive). This news comes on the heels of Adam Huss having been tapped several times over the past year to temporarily fill in for Coloma.
