C’mon. Who among us General Hospital fans really believed that we’d seen the last of Chloe Lanier’s Nelle? Nobody? Yeah, that’s what we thought. And it turns out, we’re right to be skeptical, too.

The week of September 5, the Emmy winner is making a short-term return to her troublemaking role, Soap Opera Digest reports. Although no details have been revealed about how Willow’s twin sister manages to stage a comeback — you’ll recall that she plunged to her supposed death two years ago — the smart money is on the supervixen still having a pulse. “Why’s that?” you ask.

With Esme having “taken a dive,” General Hospital has an opening for a scheme queen.

No, it’s not because everybody comes back from the dead eventually on General Hospital but because there is so, so, so much drama to play in the present with Nelle. During Lanier’s run on the soap, her character didn’t know that Nina is her biological mother or that Willow is her sibling. So if Nelle is alive, can you even begin to imagine the fireworks? We’d need sunglasses to watch the explosions!

On one hand, you’d have Nelle delighting in the fact that in her absence, Mom has managed to steal away nemesis Carly’s husband. On the other, you’d have the conniver once more trying to finagle a place for herself in the life of son Wiley — a task made all the more difficult by the fact that he’s now being raised by her ex, Michael, and his new love… Willow!

“I was looking at videos of Nelle online for days, like, ‘It has been two years since I had played this role. What did I even do? What were my speech patterns? How did I walk as Nelle?’” Lanier tells the magazine. “All of these things that were once so clicked-in for me, I had totally forgotten how to do, but hopefully, it translated, and I was able to slip back into character the way I did it before. I’m hoping!”
