At Last! We Know When Emma Samms Will Be Back on General Hospital

Ever since we got a glimpse of General Hospital‘s Holly being held captive in a mysterious location by some unknown person, fans have wondered when we might pick up that long-lost story thread. Well, it appears she will return to our screens this fall — on Thursday, October 20, (originally it was supposed to be Wednesday, October 19, per Soap Opera Digest, but was pushed back due to a preemption) — nearly two years since last we saw Samms or her beloved alter ego!
“I can’t believe that it’s been 40 years since I first appeared on General Hospital and that, once again, I get to play the wonderful character of Holly Sutton,” Samms told our sister site, Deadline. “No one is more interested in what’s happened to her since we saw her two years ago, being held captive by a mysterious villain, than me!”
Fans will recall that back in 2020, the actress was all set to return when she was struck first by COVID and then the lingering effects of what’s known as “long COVID.” Proving herself a total team player, Samms managed to tape a single scene which clued viewers in to the fact that someone was holding Holly hostage even as the rest of the world believed her to be dead.

Of course, there are many questions surrounding Holly’s situation, including who is behind the kidnapping and why. At the time, our chief suspect was Peter August, who seemed to be responsible for nearly every bad thing to happen in Port Charles for a long stretch. But he, of course, is now dead.
Or so we’ve been told. But then again, everyone believes Holly to be dead-and-buried as well.
“I am thrilled the wonderful Emma Samms will be returning to the canvas in October so we can continue telling Holly’s story and the fans can finally see what happened after we learned she was alive and being held hostage,” executive producer Frank Valentini told Deadline.

Hard as it is to believe, Samms first appeared on the soap way back in 1982. Although her original love interest, Anthony Geary’s iconic Luke Spencer, is no longer on the show, the man with whom Holly would eventually form a supercouple — Tristan Rogers’ Robert Scorpio — certainly is. Better still, he’s single and in desperate need of both romance and adventure, two things a reunion with Holly would definitely provide!
