Less than a year after General Hospital tapped Amelie McClain to replace Scarlett Fernandez as Charlotte Cassadine, the character’s been shipped off to boarding school — traditionally the magical destination where youngsters come down with Soap-Opera Rapid-Aging Syndrome and return to town as suddenly older, feistier teenagers.
Although it’s hard to imagine Valentin and Lulu’s daughter being any feistier!
The possibility remains that McClain could reprise her role down the line. General Hospital did that at first with Nicolas Bechtel as Spencer after Nikolas and Courtney’s son was sent away. But after a fashion, the role was recast with Nicholas Alexander Chavez and given a seat on the frontburner (where, we might add, the actor’s been wowing us ever since).
But aging Charlotte makes sense for ABC’s one and only daytime drama — one and only, that is, unless one of these spinoff ideas gets picked up. An older Charlotte could mix it up with Port Charles teen scene (for our money, the best in daytime). Given that her father was once a card-carrying conniver and she herself has demonstrated that she takes after him, she could wind up giving Esme a run for her money!

It tells you what to pour, chug, sip or gulp when any of a zillion familiar daytime scenarios is played out on screen. To play along and see the photos, just clickety-click here.
