Days of Our Lives’ Charles Shaughnessy Joining General Hospital as…

And just like that, a new mystery begins to unfold! We know that Charles Shaughnessy has landed a contract role on General Hospital, thanks to a report by Soap Opera Digest, and we know that he’s set to debut in September. But what we don’t know is who he’ll be playing.
Longtime fans of the ABC soap will recall that the English actor, a soap legend owing to his mega-successful run as Shane Donovan (and twin brother Drew) on Days of Our Lives, already appeared on on General Hospital. Back in 1984, he played Holly Sutton’s con-artist cousin, Alistair Durban. So it’s possible that he’s reprising that role.
Could he even be the person responsible for Holly’s current captivity? We hadn’t even considered him among our list of suspects! (You can check that out here.)
Outside of daytime, Shaughnessy starred on the hit sitcom The Nanny opposite Fran Drescher and passed through such series as Saints & Sinners, Mad Men and The Magicians. His addition to the General Hospital cast gives us one more new arrival to look forward to: We’ve already been counting down to All My Children vet Cameron Mathison (Ryan) making his debut as…
Well, that’s been kept a secret, too, though we have a hunch he’s going to be a recast Drew, especially based on the recent hints that he dropped.
While you’re here, check out our countdown of the all-time greatest characters in General Hospital history. Apologies in advance to Alistair; he did not make the cut… at least not this time!
